Default Heel shifter...

I have a new RGU coming in later this month - can't wait!

I am moving up from a Dyna FLD with only a toe shifter.

I test rode new SG's and RG's 4 times now. I have have no experience with a heel shifter, but really don't like the combination.

I have a size 13 foot, so my foot feels really cramped. So, what I want to know, is, do I just need to work with it until I get used to it, or do those with big feet normally remove the heel shifter?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Brad

(Corrected spelling of heel from heal) thanks, rhlhamlet!

Yank that POS. If you have man-sized feet then that heel shifter is in the way.

I removed it off my last 2 bikes, just haven't gotten to it yet on new bike. I don't understand the need for it, but its a personal thing I guess. During warm weather riding with tennis shoes it's not in my way, but with colder temps now and with boots, the sole is always getting under the rear lever preventing me from upshifting. I keep forgetting to remove it till I'm off riding and then can't shift. lol

Never had one on my 03 Road King, I thought it was great. Just picked up a 10 Ultra and tried it, love it, won't be taking it off. I have seen they have a hinged heel shifter, maybe good for long trips to give more room

I don't use mine all the time but I like having one.

One thing I did immediately was move it (rotate) a couple of notches down. Almost every one I've seen at a dealership is just mounted too darn high. Not sure why that is.

The hinged one might be a good idea for comfort but I put on an extended reach rear shifter and that took it out of my way but it's still available when I want to use it.

I really like mine, thought I'd hate it.
I believe there are arms that accommodate a larger foot.

Congrats on your new bike.

Good point, I may move mine down a notch or two, thanks for that. Never even thought of it, ha ha

I currently ride a Limited, previously a Limited, before that an Ultra. I removed the heel shifter from all three because I do have "big" feet and find it more convenient. My wife rides a Deluxe and she loves the heel toe shifter. When I ride her bike, which is a lot of fun, I end up missing shifts and finding neutral more often than I want. It's all personal choice. I don't like the heel shifter but my wife loves it - to each his/her own.
