Default commander II tires

about 2k miles ago I replaced my rear stock dunlop with a commander II tire. it is a big improvement in response, smoothness, and handling.I recently replaced the front tire with the same and am satisfied with the results. I noticed when the mech. balanced the front tire he didn't have to remove any weights, i didn't pay close enough attention when he did the rear tire, but the vast improvement in smoothness of the ride makes me think that I was just riding on unbalanced tires. I'm riding an '06 1200L and with the reported increase in mileage and improved handling I'll stick with the Michelins. Had to replace the oil pressure sending unit today , what a p.i.t.a.

Dot, back in the beginning of the year I installed an 80/90x21 C II and used DK's balancing beads. I removed the weight that came with the bike. So far it is a smooth setup. I did not notice all the improvement you're mentioning but that's all so subjective.

Continental tyres are more compliant than stock Dunlops, which is why you are enjoying a smoother ride. Put another way there is more 'give' in them, thanks to slightly different carcase design and the compounds of rubber they used. You may find you don't get as many miles out of them, but that's the 'price' of an improved ride! My own preference is Avon, which deserve similar comments.

I had commander II tires on my last Ultra for 15,000 miles. They were great, and still in good condition when I traded the bike.
