engine stalls while driving

1999 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom backfires and dies after warming up. Restarts after an hour then rides for another 20 to 30 kms and does the same thing again. When checking for fire on the coils, there isn't any once it breaks down. Replaced coils, same thing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds kind of like the problem my girl was having with her 98 Sporty. Turned out to be the ignition module. Good luck with your bike.

Start the bike and heat the coils and then the ignition module up with a heat gun and see what makes it cut out, might try the pickup in the nosecone too, I believe the 99 had on in there.

Same thing happened to my 98 1200. Replaced the ignition module with a Crane Cams Hi-8 runs like a bat out of hell now. Quicker response, more power, etc. Replace the module. HD OEM runs around $60 or $70, I think.
