Security system question?
On my 2007 Sportster, when I turn the ignition on the security key icon lights up and then extinguishes after about 10 seconds...I didn't buy the security system with the bike. The handbook doesn't mention that this is suppose to happen in regards to the security system operation. I would think if there was no security system this light would not come on at all.
Just wonder if its possible that the dealer installs it on all the bikes but only programs and supplies the fobs to those who pay for it.

You could go back to the dealer ask them how to operate it.
Sounds like you have one they may have just forgot to give you the fob.
Or you could locate the tsm module and it will say either security or turn signal module.
Good luck....

I supose if you bought the bike and it was a showroom model there is a possibility that the security system was installed, but that being said they have to progam the bike's computer to acknowledge the security system. With out the hands free FOB the bike will not start, the system is to costly for the dealer to install it on all bikes they sell, just for grins.
Take the seat off and look in the owners pg 52. the antenna is pictured there, look and see if it's under the seat if there is a system installed.

Here's 2 ways to check if you have a security system.
1) If you remove the key and the key icon flashes, you have one.
2) Move the bike around after you turn it off and the key out. If the lights go nuts, you have one.
The same thing as you described happened on my old sportie. It didn't have one.
