Winter Project....in process
As far as tips: Read over the instructions several times, as they are not great.
You clearly want to do both at the same time; less to have to re-do. Regarding the passing lights, fairly straight forward other than the wiring. I did not have to remove the tank as instructed (actually got good advice on this forum to just pull up the back end enough to route the wires) – worked very well. I also did not install the switch where they indicated; I liked a more out the way place on the left side near the front of the tank. Also, make sure you find a decent ground (if you have a multimeter that helps).
For the directional relocation I didn’t pull out all the wires as instructed (which meant again removing the tank). Instead I cut the wires a few inches from the directionals, then routed the original harness where I wanted it, then just spliced the wires and hid the splices in supplied tubing – just allow enough slack for turning. This method did require soldering skills.
Removing the directional light assembly from the housing is a pain, so go slow. I also found pulling the passing light wire then all three directional wires through the housing with the grommet on the wires, then installing grommet to work best. Oh, if you want the directionals close up to the bottom of the bracket you will need a skinny half inch wrench....FWIW.
Sorry for going on....if you would like more detail PM me....GL.
I read over the instructions once or twice, and I'm a little nervous to get it underway. But I also plan on doing the rear blinker relo as well, and a saddlebag install too. Seems like I need a jack first to finish that.Any chance you could post a picture of where you located your switch?
Does anyone know if it's possible to install these without a switch connected to the headlights to be "always on"? Or is there a reason that would be a bad idea?
Below is where I mounted the switch...hope it helps.

Regarding eliminating the switch, I cannot think off the top of my head why it wouldn't work as long as you had a heavy enough wire to supply power. The reason for the relay in the supplied kit was so that the switch would only handle relay power, not both lights.
