I just had mini apes fitted on my iron and I notice now that when I turn the key to ACC the speedo, warning lights and fuel pump powers up. Im sure before it done that when key turned to IGN. I means now that it will start in either ACC or IGN position. I think when he extended the wires for the apes maybe he has joined the switched live and permanent live together (I used to do this years ago with car stereos so they would work without needing dash ignition on). Anyway I cant see it being a problem and don't think its worth stripping it back down again but are their any bad points or problems leaving it like this??
If done properly, I don't see it being a problem as long as you didn't use the ACC position previously for powering electronics when the bike wasn't running.
However, I would want to know WHY someone changing the bars would just decide to jump the ACC and IGN lines together, or did they goof up and short something out.
Thats what I thought, I will ask him when I see him next but it doesn't seem to cause any problems so might leave it rather than start messing around with wires again?
[QUOTE=John Harper;12116298]Hopefully. You think they'll warranty someone else's wiring job being a possible issue?
Thats the trouble, he said defo not something he done when wiring the apes but if dealer says it is then prob stung with labour costs, dont know what to do? Leave as is or approach dealer? Looking on google there seems yo be ptobs with sportster ignitions
