Default HD Clamp on Windshield

Do you have an HD windshield on your 2004-2010 Sportster? Which do you have. How do you like it?

I just bought a National Cycle Switchblade Chopped and a 2-UP. They both don't fit. One is too short, the other is too tall..

I have one. Love it. I did not think I would want it, but a long ride on a really, really windy day at highway speed, buffeting me around like a beer can in the back of a pick up truck changed my mind.
I passed a Harley dealership, pulled in, bought it, put it on, and rode the rest of the way a lot more comfortably.
I like that it is detachable, so I can put it on and pull it off, but to be honest, I have never taken it off since.
The HD windshield is well made, a lot better than the National Cycle cheap one I put on my wife's Rebel before she dumped it for a 650cc scooter.
I like mine. And, think it is worth the extra bucks Harley charges over the other brands.
But, that's just my 2 cents.

I have three of the HD compact QR, 18 clear, 18 smoke, 14 smoke. Also an HD quarter fairing. They fit an 05 1200 Roadster and a 00 Dyna Sport FXDX. Even though the 2 bikes have the same front end they fit me slightly different due to the lower seating position on the Dyna. I think I get more updraft on the Dyna. I take them off tooling around town but always have one on for highway speeds, excessive highway speeds. When riding far I almost always have a tank bag and that eliminates any updraft buffeting. If I didn't use the tank bag I would likely add the small wind deflector under the bottom triple tree.

One thing that surprised me was top speed on the 1200 goes up (at least 5mph) with the windshield. Tested on the same day, same road, minutes between runs. I have no life.

I got it to use with bad weather but I actually never took it off, always ride with it. Great item!

I had the H-D 14 incher Q.D. one, but have put another lexan sheet, to heighten it, too much buffeting with the 14"

14":

Now, home made screen on the existing brackets:

My advice: take the tallest one you find, you always may adapt it by cutting out the plastic if necessary

I have had this one since 2007, it came as part of the Essential Riders Kit. The only time I get buffeting is when I get within 100 feet of an 18 wheller, especially one with an open dump bed.

I have an H-D qd shield. Any windshield is going to provide some buffetting, but that is the nature of sitting on a bike with a sheet of plastic shaped like a small door up front! However I love mine and it gives great relief compared to sitting at speed with no shield.

HD QD for me. I'm looking to get a new piece of plastic for mine from Clearview in the near future. A little taller with the recurve option.

It came with the bike and I thought I would use it in when temps dictated only. It's only been off for cleaning and one ride. I love it.

Not sure of the part number . . . but on my 2007 1200c, my detachable windshield is a total of about 28 inches tall, it is 18 inches from the top to the cut out above the headlight.
I, personally have not really noticed much buffeting, not even in a crosswind. Nor do I notice any updraft to speak of. I have noticed a tad when being passed by an 18 wheeler, as other have noticed.

I think it is totally worth the cost and a quality product, especially with the ease of lowering, raising and adjusting it to perfection up and down the forks with the quick detach clamps to really dial in that ride.

And, good news, you'll notice a definite lessening of bug suicides on your face, chest, and neck come next spring! SO much better to clean off a splat, or more usually, watch them be flipped right over your head over the windshield due to the air movement than have that big a$$ bug smack your check at 80 on the highway. An added bonus of having a windshield!
