New Sportster - Oil Recommendations
Yea, after 7 years and 92,000 miles in the 90+ degree Fl heat, I pulled my motor apart for the 1250 upgrade. The motor was spotless and in beautiful condition. I guess my oil wasn't doing a good job, huh.
Now the big question. Can I switch to Mobil 1 if I've been using Royal Purple in both holes since my 1K service on my 08 1200C Sporty. I have 18,500 on her now. Royal Purple getting damn near $18 a quart here.

Yes, you can switch oils without any problem. Paying those high prices for "botique" V-Twin labeled oil is insane IMO.
V-Twin oil is specifically made for bikes with a single sump (one oil supply for the Motor/Primary/Tranny) oil system. Harley's don't have that limitation.

In the past, finding the 15w-50 stocked in the store was always hit or miss.
With this link, you can order it into your local store for free In Store pickup.

Blackstone mentions a few times that 15w50 M1 is a 40W at the time of testing but because they appear to be flower sniffin riders wear is still good. Now throw that oil into a bike where it is rode hard in the twisting mountains of NC where when I lived there I went through brake pads every 8,000 miles. That oil woulda been outa spec at 2,000 miles as it was for you at over 4,000.
You and rog love to build bikes (bolt **** on and call it a build), just because you can follow directions and bolt some things on dont make you an instant expert in everything. Both yall need to at the very least do some reading, maybe look at some ASTM J300 specs.
Blackstone never says anything bad about any oil. They be like oh yeah man your oil sheared down to a 40w but its all good..... Yeah, I'd pay $35.00 for that. They need to buck up and say the oil sheared out, try 1,000 miles less next time.
Oh that hurts your feelings, big deal. You seem to be a somewhat smart guy. Look at your cSt viscosity that they say they measured at 100c. Then place that number next to a chart of ASTM J300 viscosity specs. Then tell all of us here where it falls. Use one of the many links to ASTM J300 viscosity specs I provided, even though they all say the same thing. Forget about blackstones proprietary spec range. They just cant rewrite the cSt viscosity ranges as they please. It either is or is not in spec. M1 15w50 posted in MANY UOAs right here on HDF is shown to shear down to a 40w in as little as 3,000 miles. Not a very robust oil unless you ride like a granny where a robust oil really isnt needed.
I have been looking for the 15w50 M1 at my area wallys and haven't found it. Link says they stock it so I will look again or at least know they can order. I got 6 qts of valvoline v twin dino to burn up and may switch then. I will see how it looks when changing. I have never been a believer in uoa for my stuff unless I suspect an issue, but for the hell of it may just see what it yields. Idk it's only an hour pay to get uoa done anyway.
