Default 2008 1200 Custom - Asking for help

Hi all. It's been a long time since I've started a doing any real aftermarket build on a bike (2007-08 I think), but the time has come to start one.

I sold my 07 Street Glide last year when I had no further use for touring, and I've spent the winter looking at the 2008 1200 Custom sitting in my garage - pretty much bone stock. The short story is this...the bike was purchased for my wife back in 08 but she ended up very sick and couldn't ride (it still has the original 1300 miles I put on it from new). I've since lost her but I promised my son (he's now 16) that I was keeping it for him to have one day.

So now I've started snooping for all the parts to make it "custom", including a stage 1, LaPera solo, grips, bars, wheels, etc, etc. What I'm hoping to do is a "contrast cut" type of theme on it but the stumbling block right now is what Black VH Staggered Short Shots would look like against the chrome heads and case. By any chance has anyone done that or found a picture? I know there's a ton of Nightsters with them but I have yet to see a Custom. I would have opted for the Big Radius (had them on my SG) but VH doesn't do the nice scalloping on the tips or the chrome/black contrast on the Sportster units.

Before anyone asks - yes, I have searched the threads until I'm blue in the face but no luck. Even went through all 48 pages of Sportster pic thread and no dice.

Any help guys? I'll also have a ton more questions before I'm done because Sporties are new to me. Thanks in advance.

After many, many threads...found one example (it's a picture of another member's bike). Hopefully he doesn't mind me reposting it.

Think I'm liking the look. Now to wait for an answer from Wimmer on the intake.

Then the seat.

Then the horn cover and gas cap.

Then the grips, pegs, shifter ****.

Then the wheels, rotor and pulley.

And the list goes on....

I don't like it, the flat black clashes with the shiny black tank, chrome looks best on the custom, the more the better. I like chrome slip-on slash cut mufflers, the pythons are nice, I have cobras, the SE's also look good. there's a lot of cool little stuff you can do, change the bars, add chrome, steel brake lines, add gauges, and then there's the big stuff..
