Got a '97 here. I haven't had a chance to ride a different sporty so I'm not sure what the performance difference is like, but I dig mine. I'm in the slow process of learning, analyzing, and eventually upgrading the A/C, rejet, and getting some short shots.

Aside from the the dual plugs, dual front discs, adjustable suspension, and tach, do the sport models have performance upgrades stock? I've heard stories about better cams, better heads, etc., but don't know for sure.

yes they have higher lift cams and higher compression as well. also the gearing is slightly different i believe. mine is stage one'd with dyno'd carb,Kuryakin hyper charger, Screaming Eagle H/T leads, some really expensive plugs,Screaming Eagle slash cut drag pipes, and fitted stainless steel Goodwich brake hoses. "to make go and stop"but i've also fitted forward controls, a big seat, and semi beach bars. so generally its a lot quicker than it looks like it should be, which is fun with some of the plastic fantastic brigade around here.

Haha that made my day!

Does HD publish the 1200S specs (as opposed to the normal 1200's) anywhere?

Also, do the 1200R's have the same setup?

not really looked into the details but the R does look very similar at least on the surface. and i have a sportster owners manual that lists all the different specs for S's and all the others in the range. had to order it from the USA because there wasn't one in the UK.

After doing some research I found that, unfortunately, the 1998 model was the first to have dual plug heads and the hotter cams. So while my bike may lack those, I think it still has great giddyup and gives me something to work towards.

Here is an early article (1998?) on the 1200S written in England. http://www.american-v.co.uk/roadtest...200s/body.html

Thought I'd include a pic of my bike.

Nice looking bike BW. Thats an interesting, and somewhat unusual, trade. RK to Sportster. People usually move the other way.
In any case, that's one special Sporty you've got there.

Thanks SLO. My wife and I just didn't do any long rides anymore so just thought I'd downsize.
