Default Horn Relocation Kit Questions

I was looking for a kit that will relocate the horn on my Sporty from the front to a side "cowbell" set up by the enrichener. Much to my surprise, they are around $100.00 shipped. Unfortunately, I am low on funds for the immediate future but still have my eye on this setup. Can someone either provide me the part #'s that I can piece meal this kit together, A way to fab a bracket up inexpensively or willing to sell my their cowbell horn set up at a more reasonable price? Being broke sux....

My email address is: jvasiliadis@energizer.com

Thanks for any help you can give!

John

I wrote an email to a buddy a few years ago, describing the required parts with pics of a factory 2004 Sportster 1200C side-mounted horn and pics of the actual kit from Harley. I had bought a kit and broke it down in a document, which is re-created below. I'm pretty sure there are some write-ups around here somewhere, showing a simple way to mount a horn (like, attaching a "L" bracket) but I couldn't point them out to you.

See below for parts assembly diagram (exploded view).
I’m guessing you’ll want these (or fabricate similar):
#6 It’s a chrome bracket
#18 (2) fancy, sorta thick washers
#11 It’s a vibration isolater
#17 goes on bracket mounted to heads

You should be able to use your existing Enrichner Cable bracket that‘s attached to the top of your heads - you’ll just have to cut off the tab that actually holds the cable (as far as I can tell).
The rest of the hardware is typical nuts, bolts and wires.

You can use a “Freeway Blaster” low tone horn for the actual horn. FIAMM Part # 72112. Advance Auto has them (part # 6200015) for $20, but I didn’t research for the cheapest. It will fit under the factory “cow bell” horn cover. I’ve used them as replacements before.

Isolater:

Harleyscuba: Thanks a lot! this is exactly what I was looking for. I can't thank you enough. I wonder if I can adapt a horn assembly from a fuel injected Sporty on my carbed one. Any clue?

Of course, the FI bracket won't include a spot for your enrichner (choke), but we all know that. You might be able to stack brackets, one for your enrichner and one for the horn, at the existing location of your enrichner ****.
You'll see when you look, your choke **** is probably centered under the valley of the existing bracket that bridges your heads (green circle). On the side-mount horn bracket, the choke is skewed (red circle) and the horn bracket is centered under the main bracket between the cylinders/heads. Also, note that the side-mount horn bracket includes an extra cable guide (also red circle) that's non-existent on your existing choke bracket. It may be superfluous, so that would make fabrication easier. I would think that having the FI bracket with all the other hardware would be a step in the right direction, but there'd be some figurin' and fabrication/alterations going on. I guess you gotta decide what price to effort ratio is tolerable for you. You might look at your existing bracket and figure something out in no time. A drill, saber saw and a belt sander can shape a piece of aluminum pretty easily.
