You can order one from a dealer. There is no harley Davidson "tech line" per say. Just customer service and they WILL refer you to your nearest dealer. However, we can get you through an oil change. What year 883. Is it an R? Dave

An oil change is almost as easy as putting air in a tire if you can get the filter off.I bought the factory filter wrench because I was pissed off.It was fairly cheap though and will last a lifetime of changing oil on two sporties.Be careful when you do it though the crank sensor is near the filter on newer models. If you break it from using the wrong filter wrench it won't start when you are done.

Go to your nearest dealer or order online a service manual. Great investment! Use it as a guide, and get to know you Sportster. The Harley Davidson Sportster, and the Big twins and everything are wonderfull machines! Well built and some what simple. I love them!! Go easy and work you way through the process of repair and maintinence. I belive that is the way to really enjoy the ownership of a Harley Davidson!! Good luck..................meathead

Yes, get the Service Manual, but you can get through an oil change without a problem. I also fell into the "Harley Oil Filter Wrench" trap. I hated the thing, threw it away, and use one that I already had that works much better.

One IMPORTANT tip. Don't use as much oil, as that owner's manual, or the service manual recommends. Your bike will be overfilled, and if you don't already have the oil blow by leak, you will after that. Use just 3 quarts (at least for an 883) That will put you pretty much half way between the add line and the fill line, that's were I try to keep mine at all times.

I found a filter wrench at Pep Boys. Works great and only cost $7.99. But.... It doesn't say'harley Davidson'.

I found a manual but I am still searching for the location of the crank case oil drain plug. Drained the oil reservoir by pulling a hose off but surely there must be a drain plug to drain engine oil from the crank case. The local Harley Shop told me to look for a hose at the bottom of engine area. I did pull a hose off of the right side of the engine but no oil came out. Any advice would be appreciated.

The drain hose is under the rear of the primary drive case and it dead ends on to a lug on the frame. If you look under the bike you will see a black hose that goes to the frame and has a clamp on it. Just loosen the clamp and pull it off, open up your oil tank cap, and go get some lunch. It drains wicked slow.
