I came from a 2013 Iron 883 with a stage 1, I've been full throttle on it and the highest I've ever seen my speedometer go was 112-113. Granted speedo's can be wrong but either which way it was at least 100 mph. That being said my 2014 48, 1200 engine, pulls MUCH harder than my Iron did. I loved the looks of the Iron and the same with the 48, but the 1200 is certainly noticeable. After riding my Iron for over a year and then riding my 48, that extra power made the bike feel much lighter to ride also. I'm 6'0, 180 athletic build, and I like the forwards more for relaxed riding than mids, but I frequently ride with my feet on my passenger pegs also and find there to be plenty of space on both bikes but my preference now is the forwards on my 48 with passenger pegs to switch it up.
you don't feel it too much city driving, light to light, traffic, ect..but once you get on the highway and your friends take off, you'll notice the difference having an 883 and your chasing them all day. it gets exhausting. just go with a 1200

I'll sell you my 883, I'm ready for more power. 2010 Iron, cant be too far from away you, less than 5K miles... what'd ya say? ;-) It'll help me convince the wife to let me get the Slim I've been eyeing.
I'd say the 883 is great if not perfect for around town but 80mph on the highway for any length of time is less comfortable than I'd like.
Well I was not running out today to get one, I wish we could. Just in the looking what to do phase right now. After the responses I think we will shoot for a 1200. The gearing is a big deal to me. That's the big problem with the Honda, it just runs out of gear. It's a 4 speed. I'm going to try to build a '77 XLT for her, FL bags, nice windshield, good seat, crash bar.
Another thing is most riders lug instead of run through the gears. On my 883R I shift out of 3rd at 60 if i need to get on it and thats not at the rev limiter. 45-50 is not pushing it hard in 3rd on a 883. Sure the 1200 is going to have more power but its not to say the 883 wont get up and go in short notice. Sometimes i wished i had a 6th gear but i don't need it. I can make my 883 get up and go @240lbs. So i suppose somebody at @170 or less could really get her going.
