A buddy of mine is considering the purchase of his new HD. He has some budgetary constraints, but I'm trying to push him towards the 1200C or Nighsterversus the 883C.
Other than the fact that the 1200's are going to come with a heftier price tag, but obviously generate more power, are there any pro's and con's you all can offer? Anything that would relate to the enjoyment of the ride, or maintenance, that you've experienced? Thanks,

If he has budgetary constraints, I wouldn't want to be the one to talk into something he can't afford and maybe have to sell later. I had a 1200 and my buddy had a 883. He never used its full power potential and he got better gas mileage than I.
Depends on what you mean by a lot more I guess. Whenthe one I hadwas an 883 it got about 50mpg on the highway, after it was converted to a 1250 I think it got around 47mpg. Just for comparison my Street Bob gets about 49mpg.
It does have better resale value and some more power, but you don't necessarily need either one. My 883 does just fine and takes 2 up just fine as well. If he is on a budget, let him buy the 883 or throw him the extra cash difference for the 1200 if you want him to get it so bad.

Yep, all things being equal there isn't that much of a difference in mileage between many models.
Never had a 883 Sportster, but my 2005 1200C averages right at 50 MPG, and that's with higher performance Screamin' Eagle "E" cams.
Under the same riding conditions my 2003 Softail FatBoy (with Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner and a good Dyno Tune) averages right at 48 MPG.
2 or 3 miles per gallon difference between models is nothing as far as I'm concerned.
Ive had both an I liked both but when I converted the 883 over to a 1200 in my opinion it was alot more powerfull feeling then the stock 1200.Thats just my opinion. It was cheaper to buy the 883 an I only spent $600 later when I could afford it an had a 1200 anyhow.
A 883 Harley is better than no Harley and my wifes883 used to get 50+ gas mileage before the 1200 conversion. If he wants more down the rode it doesn't cost that much to upgrade the performance, especially if mechaniclly inclined!!!!!
