engine temp question

On the Twin Cams the temp sensor is on the front head, right next to the intake manifold (which is bringing in a relatively cool charge of air). Normal reading for them is 230*.

But on the Sportster, there is a more honest placement of the temp sensor. It is on the rear cylinder (which does not get as much air and runs hotter than the front). It is also on the top of the head, right above the combustion chamber. So it is getting very close to the hottest possible reading.

If the Twin Cam heat sensor was in the same place, my guess is that it would be MUCH hotter than the Sportys run.

i run about 350-380 depending on the outside temp. It's fine for cruising along. not so fine for sitting at stoplights...
