Question Starting Issues even with new battery

Hi, I am new to the forum. I recently purchased a 2009 Sportster 1200 C with 5K miles. The seller had just changed the battery as he hasn't used the bike in a year.

It starts fine and I had taken it for a ride for 5-6 times with 20 to 40 minutes each. The issue was when I had to do stop the engine briefly and re-start within a minute or two after a 20-40 minute ride. I had to jump start it and then ride 30 minutes to make sure it will have starting issues when I start it next day. And it started fine the next day but once I just jump started it and didn't ride after that. Next time it wouldn't start.

I took it to a HD Service and they got it back to saying that the connections were loose and they have fixed it now.

Next day I have the same issue.

I have taken another HD Service appointment next week but before I thought I could research on this and if possible fix it myself :-)

Any help to understand the issue would be greatly appreciated.

If terminals were loose, check for a carbonized coating on the lugs. If there already was a carbon build up, just tightening them will not do a lot. You have to file, sand or grind off the carbonized build up off the surface of the lug connectors as well. While you have the lug connectors off, get yourself a battery tender and connect the quick disconnect from it to the battery at the same time you connect the other lug terminals too. Then connect the battery tender up to it at least overnight so that the battery will have a full charge on it to begin your day with.
