If you have OEM tires on it start there. Any non OEM tire will improve the ride greatly. If it still rides too rough then look into the other options. Trying to get a better ride with the OEM tires is like throwing bandaids at it doing other mods first. After tires, new suspension will smooth it out even more.

Mustang WIDE nostalgic (15" vs 12"), picked two solo ones up on Amazon at $260 each for mine and my wife's sportsters. They make a big improvement on their own. With a seat, 5 minutes out of the box and its on, plus you'll likely spend more on shocks. Put 12.5" progressive 430's on my custom, wife is not pushing for new shocks on her iron, but she has mids and I have forwards which makes a differences, forwards rotate the hips back putting more direct pressure on the spine.

Try the different adjustment on your stock shocks first. I'm 6'1" and 270 pounds and still ride with my stock shocks. I ride on the middle setting, and almost never bottom out.

For your weight I'd look into the air shocks off touring models. I'm 180ish lbs and run mine with 0psi but I've heard they are a huge improvement for guys ~225ish lbs with a few pounds of air. And you can get a set for about 100 bucks and its a great bang for your buck mod\upgrade.

Thanks for the input. I pulled the trigger on the Mustang Wide Vintage solo seat and will work with the stock shocks for now. If I remember right, I believe the shocks might be on the lightest setting (1) and for my weight it should be 3 or 4. I'm thinking of the 12" air shocks for my next move since they are relatively inexpensive used. I have saddlebags that will hide them so appearance of the shocks isn't a huge issue for me. Again, thanks for the suggestions.

Did both. Changed the seat. Little change. Changed the shocks, world of difference.

The 12" take off air shocks will make a BIG difference.

Hey madchemist24, good to see you here. I'm doing the Hot Bike Power Tour again this year. Won't be on the Sporty this year, wife is coming. You should think about doing it to keep a Sporty in the mix!

Cool...even if it's for a day or so, or even one evening, would be great to meet-up.

SuperLows come on stock Michelins, which are fine IMHO. They are not made of hardwood, like the other brand stock tyres!

I have a 2011 SuperLow, owned from new. What I soon found is that both front and rear suspension is pretty poor! My forks sagged, when I sat on it, to leave me with only around 1/3rd total travel to ride on. There are various ways around that, including simply using spacers in the stock set-up, to lift the front around an inch. I installed Race Tech springs, matched to my weight.

At the rear I used 13" shocks, which along with the changes up front have lifted the bike around an inch. So it is now a Super-not-so-Low! I used Hagon gas shocks on mine, although I am thinking of changing them to their Nitro, to get better quality damping. If you only ride solo good shocks, plus lifting the front, should give you a much nicer riding experience.
