The V&H slip ons are pretty throaty with a nice rumble.
A little loud for my taste, but all my coworkers like the sound.
As far as power increase, I'm still in the break in stage.
There is a motorcycle online review of 5 different slip ons and the V&H came out as one of the best buys.
You can Google V&H 3 inch slip on reviews to find the article.
For the price they are hard to beat.
As for a tuner I'm using Nightriders 2014 VIEDs with just a little popping on decel. Once the VIEDS are set properly I expect to the popping to go away.

Harley made changes to the 2014 models that does not allow 2013 and lower years mufflers/exhausts work. That's why you see 2014 specific exhaust/slipons. There are a number of exhausts/slipons that are now for 2014 sportsters. You just have to look.

I just ordered the Khrome Werks HP Plus slipons for my 2014 48. A girl at work has the V&H 3" Slipons on her 2014 Custom. They sound really nice (loud and deep). Too loud for me, but you can get quiet baffles for them. The thing with the 2014 Sportsters is they have cats in the mufflers (now all of them are California CARB compliant...thanks CA). To make up for the loss of power, Harley up the compression on the 2014 Sportsters. Getting a better exhaust/slipons definitely lets you get the extra HP and Torque out of the 2014 engines with the higher compression.

MY opinion on LOUD pipes. Don't care what you run or how loud as long as you are not MY neighbor...I leave at 4:30 AM or so for work and try to be considerate. There are 6 other Harley riders within a few blocks of me along with a Virginia State trooper and County sheriff. They both work various shifts. Don't want to get on their bad side.

I subscribe to the LOUD PIPES "MAY" SAVE LIVES group. No way do I rely on my pipes being heard by anyone to make them notice me. I definitely don't use it for a reason to justify having loud pipes like some people do. I ride defensively at all times with the idea that NO ONE SEES ME or HEARS ME.

Next time in the car, note when you see a motorcycle and when you actually hear it. Do you see it first or hear it first? If so when? Sound travels from the bike towards the back end with sound waves emitting to the side of the bike. You hardly hear a bike coming right toward you or from behind you (depends on sound reflection from the bike off of objects such as buildings, cars, trucks, etc) as to when you see the bike. There are a lot of variables as to how sound is propulgated. Would never rely on sound as part of a defensive driving style. This is me though.

The main problem is HD changed the size of the o2 sensors.
The Bassani Road Rage II B1, 2 into 1 exhaust will fit the 2014 48. I put on a set a couple of weeks ago. They include o2 sensor bung reducers so you can use the HD o2 sensors. Also, if you want to bypass the o2 sensors for whatever reason, they include plugs too.

The pipes are high quality with tuned-length headers, a perfect fit, and the finish is excellent. I got the black version because I'm not really into the chrome look.

If you're looking for performance you'll get better gains with a 2 into 1 system than you will with muffler slip-ons or a 2 into 1 into 2 system. They are more expensive than some other 2 into 1 systems but with a little shopping around you can get them quite a bit cheaper than MSRP. I purchased mine from Phat Performance.

Such a bummer. Was really looking forward to purchasing V&H Sideshots for my 2014 48. Thanks for the info.

I was looking at those 2 into 1's, but all the marketing stuff on them turned me off, talking about how those pipes are only for people pulling 120 hp out of their sportys or they may actually lose power. I'd love to eventually push my bike down to that 4 second range 0-60, but as a new rider I'm not in a huge hurry to do that, and by all accounts I won't have to do a full engine rebuild and push 120 hp to get there. If I wanted 120 hp or to get to 60 in 2 seconds I'd be riding a rocket.

Have you had a lot of work done to your bike, or perhaps maybe all that marketing jargon is just blowing smoke?

I never saw any such hp restriction on those pipes in the research that I did. They are marketed by Bassani as high performance pipes but so are most 2 into 1 systems because higher gains are possible with them. Of course I’m sure they’re illegal in CA… lol Also in researching I only found 1 complaint about the pipes scraping and two others noticed the muffler is not the same black as the header shields. The black on mine appears to be uniform in shade. Most everyone loved the sound and not one soul complained about performance degradation.

The only requirements I got from Bassani was that they should only be used on a bike using at least 11” rear shocks and to use aftermarket tuning to take advantage of the pipes\muffler design potential. I have no special performance mods to the engine itself. The only performance enhancements added are Corbra’s PowrFlo Autotuner, PowrFlo Air Intake system and the Bassani pipes.

Trust me, it’s totally obvious on the performance gains with this setup. I added the parts one section at a time to evaluate performance so that I would know what part caused an issue if one arose.

I added the Autotuner first because I already had 5 or 6 years of experience with one on a previous bike. By itself the main thing I noticed was overall smoother acceleration (didn’t do wot… still new engine)and most of the low speed parking lot “stumbling” disappeared. So did the slight stumbling I was getting in 5th at 40 mph.

Then I added the Air Cleaner. Performance-wise I couldn’t really tell much of a difference. I could hear the intake sucking air and the stock pipes sounded louder although I didn’t measure with a meter. Anyone that’s put a cold air induction system on a car with stock pipes will know what I mean.

After no issues arose and being assured that everything was operating smoothly I added the pipes. This was about two weeks after the air cleaner mod. Wow. Performance was exactly as I expected it to be. Also, once the engine is warmed up, idle sound is bitchin’.

If I had developed issues with one of these three items I definitely would be squawking about it here so that others wouldn’t be wasting their time and money.

All that being said, many different people like many different pipe styles and sound. So, whatever path you choose I wish the best for your expectations.
