I originally posted this in another thread in 2014 -
you guys are killin me with the side of the road fixes.
love it.
as for points, an eyeball always worked for me..
side of the (back) road, late 60s.
myself and two brothers were riding middle of the night from Austin to San Antonio
(on the back roads) about an 85 mile run.
one brother, Chuck the Duck (Barrington), on his Norton (with the Tar Baby B'rer Rabbit paint job),
and Dennis Tynan, Dink, was on his big inch poked and stroked XLCH.
I was on my 64 XLCH.
Chuck was a mechanic at the Harley dealership, Dink was an importer and into interstate transportation.
20 miles or so short of home base, Dink ran out of fuel.
so we leaned his machine over,
and detached the fuel line from my carb and transferred fuel from mine to his.
12 - 15 years later, I picked up the Sunday paper on my front porch.
front page, there was a picture of a nurse carrying a heart.
turns out it was Dink's heart.
he was hauling *** over some railroad tracks, went airborne, crashed, and died.
his was the first heart transplant in San Antonio.
the lady's name was Beth Hooker.
I always wonder if she ever has acid flashbacks.
RIP Dink. you were a great friend.

Chuck the Duck. he's gone too. RIP
Rumor was someone ran them off the road.

Surely some of you all have pictures to post here. Or stories. Or a picture with a story.
here's a picture and a story -
.

.
.
.
.
two images above are from 2007
I started building this 38 Chevrolet 1 ton for my friend Richard (RIP) in the early 80s
when Richard found this truck it had a 14 foot oil tank mounted. First thing to go was 8 feet out of the frame.
Put a 6 x 6 flatbed on it with a gooseneck receiver. then a small block Chevrolet 400.
I used the front suspension from about an 82 Ford truck.
image below is from 2011
now upgraded to a dually and upgraded wheels and tires. you can see Richard liked his lights and reflectors.

posted this below a few years back in a thread about getting pulled over and fighting the cop -
watched the video when you posted it a couple daze back.
I've been laughing so hard since, I wasn't able to type til now.
lawman is always right on the side of the road.
fighting is done in court.
if you're clearly in the right, judge might cut you loose.
if you are even slightly on the wrong side of the law
the judge will surely whack that gavel down
and say
*I don't want to see your ugly *** again*
7-8 years ago I'm on the interstate. nice day. light traffic.
(before I bumped the motor up to 121 inches)
stealth cop stealthed up behind me and lit me up.
First question - does that thing have a speedometer on it??
Yessir.
does it work??
Yessir.
You were hitting 95.
Yessir, sorry about that.
License and insurance card please.
Says 2006 SuperGlide here.
Yessir, double aught six.
WHAT HAPPENED to it??
I like to build ****, sir.
So, he proceeds to circle my machine.
The VIN gonna match these papers??
Yessir, the numbers are on this side.
What kinda exhaust is that??
Vance and Hines, sir.
How loud is it??
I don't know, want me to start it up??
Yeah.
then after about a second and a half -
Shut it off.
Yeah,
it's loud.
Where's the mufflers??
The baffles are inside, sir.
Law says mufflers, not baffles.
I can't see your license plate sticker.
What's it say??
November, sir.
Well, I can't see it from here.
As another five minutes of lecture proceeds, I am tabulating the damage.
Tickets in Tejas ain't cheap.
150-200 for each infraction.
I figure I'm at about 7-800 already.
The stealth cops here pride themselves on multiple infraction incidents.
So, then he hands my paperwork back to me,
and says -
"you need to slow it down a bit".
Yessir. have a nice day.

I have four seats in this ad. Two with the grab bar are $175. without are $150, Plus shipping.
From what I understand these seats were used from 1964 to 1972. Mostly on the XLH, I've seen some also on the XLCH.
You would need to verify that yourself, I'm not positive on this.
these seats are not *perfect*, but I would say "very nice" (for 50+ year old used seats).
I've had these and six or seven other vintage Harley seats in storage for about 10 years. Purchased from a hoarder's estate sale.
