A few years ago I rode to Key West from Delray (and back) on Christmas Day, then the next day drove in my car to Pensacola. Basically did the whole of Florida in 36 hours. It's a long friggin state I'll tell ya.

That it is my sweet love.
How many times have people driven into Florida thinking "yay" we are here. But then they have pretty much another day's ride to get to where they're going.
A friend of mine when he leaves Florida from South Palm Beach County, he always complains that it takes a whole day just to get the hell across the border northbound. Not even going through the panhandle but just going straight north.
Tampa is central, Miami is south and Jacksonville is north. Tallahassee and Pensacola are the panhandle. Orlando is Disney World. The Keys are The Keys. Naples is a retirement home.
A comedian once said the panhandle is the southern part of Florida and the further south you go in Florida the further north you get. By the time you get to Miami you are in New York City. That is funny but also very true.

1. I holdfast on my basic premise that the northern part of the state basically in the Tallahassee area southbound and without stopping, the further southern part which goes West East-West is Key West.
Doing the math simply puts the center of Florida way further south than the central area people think it is.
I know I am right because I said it.
2. But we could do, is take the severely crime-ridden areas of definitely Miami and then Fort Lauderdale and sink those cities to make reefs in the ocean.
That will help shorten up the vertical length of Miami moving Central Florida a little closer to where people think Central Florida is supposed to be in the first place.
Right? Of course right. I know stuff. Just ask me…
The Keys aren't part of the mainland therefore they don't count when approximating the geographic center of the state proper.
. I'm sure they explained this to you but just in case you forgot, you need to take your meds regularly. You can't just take them when you remember or when you don't feel "well" or you may reach a point when you don't know you aren't "well" like when you entered that original post!
If you determine the center of Florida by using the Keys, then consider that central United States would land somewhere in Arizona if you measure from Sail Rick, Maine to Hawaii and probably somewhere in Southern Canada if you measure to Alaska. I think not ...
I can't argue with the geometric centroid, but for practical purposes, we all tend to see the mass of the mainland and visually wind up around Orlando when we think of the center of it (north-south).
Central Florida, huh?
Buzz, you're a nut, a likable nut, but a nut.
Panhandle all the way to Jacksonville, east coast and a west coast, and one long haul to Naples or Homestead.
You do know the Keys claim to be their own territory?
Now with that said, Central Florida begins middle of the state from the northern parts to the southern parts and each has its own lifestyle.
Personally, Central Florida to me is when there was is no GPS and everyone you meet is a stranger. Use to be folks says crash here, or park right up the road.
