Ok, forgive me, but this is going to sound like a real tourist question. But here I go.
When I was younger, any time I went to Florida for vacation there would be oranges galore. Fresh juice, huge fantastic fruits, everywhere.
Now that I live here, I havent found a single bottle of fresh juice or any orange any different from a Sunkist (brand name) orange in any NY supermarket.
Whats the secret to good citrus in SW Florida? Any suggestions? Im dying here. I used to be able to go to Whole Foods and get fresh juice, made in front of me with this awesome automated juicer, any day of the week.
I've seen some stores squeeze fresh oranges, but thinking about it I can't remember where.
I just googled and I see Fresh Market sells it. Kennesaw is our local wholesaler, I see that at Publix and other places but it's not done in store.
try Google?
Thanks. Yep, I can google. I was really just surprised at the lack of "publicity" of the major crop of the state, how its really no different then anywhere else. I guess when you live here you don't find it special. I suppose. For example in season, you can't look in any store without seeing Apples galore in NY. I was expecting the same here, with citrus. Maybe because it's summer. Season seems to be Oct-June.
Back in the 1980s you would see trucks hauling citrus when it was in season. citrus canker and a couple freezes, building homes and golf courses
