I'm planning a ride from NC to Key West, leaving on April 20. Are these little beasts unavoidable? Can I ride the coast and avoid them? Will be the first trip on the new bike, and the first trip for. my gal and I don't want to screw up the paint or the memories!
Not only can you not avoid them, they are attracted to the heat of the roads. I use the McGuire detailer to get them off my car/truck after going through the car wash. I avoid riding my bike for the few weeks they are here. Have a safe trip!!
Just make sure you have a good coat of wax on the front of your bike. When you get home throw a wet/soaked towel on the affected areas and let them soak for a while then wipe them off...
