Hope ya'll don't mind a South Georgia boy jumping in here, but your decision to go to Apalachicola is a good one. Steinhatchee is a favor spot for Georgia boys that fish, but its mostly pine trees and straight roads. You can't even see the Gulf. 98 doesn't get pretty until you pass Panacea. Angelos on Ochlocknee Bay is awesome if you're there close to eating time, but a little on the pricey side. From there west it is a great ride.
Eating is great around Apalach. The Grill and The Owl Cafe are our usual stops. My sister and brother in law have a place at St George where there are more places to stay and eat if ya'll fill up Apalach. The Apalach Inn is on the west side of town; seems like its a Best Western. Not sure if there is a hotel in East Point or not? On St George sis likes to go to Eddie Teach's raw bar but I haven't made it there yet as I'm more the boil shrimp and crash kinda person than a bar crawler. The Blue Parrot is a nice place to sit on the Gulf and drink beer and eat.
Haven't ridden up the river from Apalch. What are some good roads up there Jay?
Paul the panhandle is a nice ride from up here.Lots of nice roads in SW Georgia.Everybody is neglecting the Royal Red shrimp that start running in mid summer. They are as big as prawns and so sweet.Worth the trip from Atlanta just for the shrimp. So,,any more interest in this ride. It's time to book this years calender.
One trip a few of us up here are making this May is the Outer Banks if any of y'all are interested.G.
I'm game! Outer Banks over weekend? I could take a Friday or Monday off.
As far as the Pan Handle.... again, I am VERY interested! I will take a Friday or a Monday off to split up the long-haul down & back. Maybe we can get some more GA folks interested in heading down for a long weekend. I'm open for dates, doesn't have to be Memorial Day. Early May? Late April? I didn't start the thread, so guys pick a date and let's start planning.
This sounds interesting. Maybe the riders from the south including myself can brake it up with a stop overnight in Cedar Key, then on to Apalachicola for a nigh or two. Then find a another stop over for the way home.
Us South Georgia folks spend a lot of time in the biker friendly Florida Panhandle (ie better helmet law and food.) People focus on 98 and the coast but there are some great hilly/curvy roads in the northern Panhandle too. We ride in the Madison / Monticello / Havana area around Tallahassee often. Not the Florida most people think about; which to us is a good thing.
