Sorry to hear about your ordeal, Bill. Glad you're no worse for wear.

Get yourself, and the bike fixed up. Things will be ok.

Hey Bill,

I haven't been on here much lately, and read this whole thread from page 1. Glad you finally got your HD, sorry to hear about your day 1 ordeal. Like several have said, be glad it was only comparably minor to many others. Most of us have laid the bike down before, just pick it up and move on. Yes it is embarassing, expecially when you lay it down in a dealers parking lot in front on a few dozen people, or in front of a few co-workers that ride too. Don't ask. LOL Welcome to HD, LET'S RIDE !!

Well it's the morning after and I'm a little more beat up than I initially thought, but the 800mg Motrin are working great.
Just got off the phone with the dealer, and unofficially I'm looking at new forks, sliders, front fender, and possibly a front rim. They're gonna wash it down and then let me know what else might be lurking undetected under the mud. Insurance adjuster is due there next week as well.

Thinking about retaking the basic rider class.

Not planning to leave my neighborhood with it, once I get it back, until I get comfortable handling it at the slower speeds. My foolishness at thinking I could take it easy and get it home was a bad decision I won't make again.

BTW anyone know how to clean a muddy leather jacket and gloves?

Thanks for all the advice from everyone since I ordered this thing back in October. You've all helped me out more than you know. I may be accused by my wife of being hard headed at times, but yesterday humbled me. I screwed up. But today is a whole new day and I'm ready to move on.

Thanks. Bill.

Bill, I did the neighborhood deal when I first got my bike. Tooled around the hood early in the morning, no traffic, and learned to handle all of that power. I'm glad I did that.

You may want to purchase the "Ride Like a Pro" DVD. It a good refresher.

Like I said, get you and the bike healed up. Everything will work out.

Use a hose and sponge. If it's decent leather, it will be fine, just try to avoid complete saturation.

Glad to hear your OK.

Yeah Bill a little saddle soap and hose on the jacket, same with gloves, once you wash teh gloves wear them til they almost dry, they will fit better in the future., If you need painted parts have them order soon, they take a couple weeks sometimes. If you go to the MITI site they have refresher course that you can take with your own bike, money well spent. Keep your chin up bud, next year you will look back and laugh at this with all of the crew, trust me on that. If you dont have the chrome forks this might be a good time to upgrade while they have the bike apart, you will save alot on labor and just pay the difference between stock and chrome forks which should be minimal.

Jerry thanks for the class info. The schedule up here is pretty crappy, but I'll figure out a way to get it done. It's actually at the dealer who was Originally gonna do my delivery up in Jacksonville.
