Welcome to the crew from the Central West Coast Division. I do not know much about living in Orlando but I am sure someone will be along shortly just chock full of local Knowledge to help you out. Keep your eye out and join in a ride once you get settled and I noticed you are already aware of the Rally in November. Congratulations on the Iron but and I would like to hear some details about your ride sometime. Best of Luck on your New Life to you. Orlando is a good spot because your two hours form everywhere thats cool to go in Florida.
Windermere and Winter Park are vary different areas. Winter Park is considered a "toney" area by some, sort of a historic area, mostly smaller homes and lots, and literally in the heart of downtown and it's traffic. Many original homes may have carports, single car garages or none at all. There are updated/remodeled homes in the area, but much of Winter Park comes under a historic area designation, so remodeling & renovations get a lot of scrutiny.
In Windermere you'll find newer, larger homes and somewhat larger lots. Many homes will have 2 car garages.
Traffic generally $ucks in the Orlando area, so living on the opposite side of town from your job is not recommended.
I believe (generally speaking) that you'll find better performing schools in the Windermere area.

Thanks for the welcomes all! That's good info cHarley. Thanks!
I'm not too concerned with Orlando traffic. We have a fair bit of it here in Atlanta that I have had to deal with since '98.
Dave - I did my second SS1000 on my way to the Ocala Rally in 2008 . Had to miss last years, but have had a real good time at the two I have been able to attend.
You can do an in-state Saddle Sore 1000 in FL pretty easily if you want too. I'd be up for another one. I have done one on the bagger yet.
I live and have lived in Winter Park for 47 years.
Windereme is on the other side of Orlando.
Where will your job take you each morning, if you live in Winter park and have to drive to Windereme you are looking at an hours drive, at least
Just becuse you live in Atlanta does not give a pass; you have not been on I-4.
Pretty much a wreck every morning, not a little fender bender but an overturned car or truck.
As for schools; Seminole County Schools are rated the highest in the area.
You should be able to go online and find the schools in the area you are looking and check the test scores.

Welcome to our jungle
I have heard that about Seminole schools. We are gathering as much info as we can right now. I've seen a lot of good things about Winter Park, Windermere, and Dr. Phillips schools.
My wife will be working in downtown Orlando. North Eola Drive to be exact. Winter Park will make for a "shorter" commute I think. We are more concerned about schools than anything else right now.
Everyone in every larger city thinks their traffic is the worst ever. I have been on I4 at 8am. It is bad. I've been on the beltway in DC at 5:30pm. It is worse. Nothing compares the CA traffic though. It'll make you kill yourself.
Someone that my wife will be working with lives in Windermere and said it takes her about 40 min to get to the office (on 408, not I4). That is about the max commute I am looking for for my wife.
