Default almost a disaster !!

well,
looks like i get dumba$$ of the week award today.
i was servicing the bike and it was going well. (should have been the first tip off right there) oil was drained , transmission was drained, drain plugs back in place so i filled the transmission first and put the fill cap back on while the fill cap for the engine oil was still off ..well that slippery fuggin alan socket i was using slipped outta my damn hands and right in the oil fill. yup, you can stop laughing now !! that socket dropped way down to the bottom..
sonofabeetch.. i tried my flexible claw, little magnetized screwdrivers(were not long enough), a little bit of cursing (didn't help either). i also magnetized one of my long screwdrivers. the long magnetized screwdriver was enough to stick to it way down there, but not string enough to grab it good and drag it up the oil filled case. tried cursing again (still didn't work ) soooo, i sent my wife out to the auto store and she bought me a nice flexible magnet. i had it in there about 7 inches before i heard the beautiful sound i was hoping for , clunk.. i slowly lifted that sucker out of there, let out a big sigh of relief and had a beer..
you know, you learn a little lesson every time you do something like this.
the rest of the service went well. new skull derby cover, adjusted my clutch and my new motorcycle lift worked great.
lesson learned, bike serviced, got a little buzz going cause i couldn't stop with the beer after all that. my wife saved the day for me..
the end
ride safe, keep the filler caps on
Dave

Nice save there Dave. This sounds about like the way my day has gone today. Bike apart and wanting to ride tomorrow.

I'll probably think of this story the next time I change my oil. LOL. Glad that it worked out for you.

Flash back yea, but different problem. Noticed today while running some errands that I was getting a lot of exhaust decel pop. This is a, been there done that, deal. Park the bike and give it a once over, and sure enough, both rear cylinder exhaust manifold nuts are gone.

It should be no big deal, but getting to these 2 nuts, is like trying to scratch "your" 2 nuts through 16 layers of winter clothing. Friggin exhaust heat shield, pipe tip and pipe bracket, etc all have to come off, just to get my hands on the jewels.

"Clunk" isn't the sound I usually hear when I'm "in there about 7 inches".... but hey it's all good.

Glad it worked out well for you day, truly could have been a disaster.

This was from the tale of a man with a short term member.
