I agree with cHarley about saying "Nay" to a separate forum posting place, It is hard enough to keep up with rides as it is. Case in point being the ride the northeaster's took to Sleepy Hollow recently, It was posted in a thread that had nothing to do with riding to sleepy hollow and some of us who would have like to have been there missed out .

A separate domain name with a link back here would make it easier to find for new folks but how many members do we really want anyway. We have such a special relationship with each other because their are only so many of us, it would get impersonal really fast if we had say, Two Thousand members and the "Crew" would not be as special as it is now. Right now I can say that my house is open to any crew member that needs to crash, but if we were really big I don't know that I could say that anymore. I dont really see a large market for Florida Crew stuff as it would not mean anything to anybody except for members and I think we should just keep it simple. We have something really special going on here and rapid growth would ruin it for all.

For these reasons I have to vote "no" but I am easy and will go with the majority and will contribute any way that I can.

While think you have some good points Dave, Still would like to try it for a year .. Trust me are not going to get a big flood of people from here there and everywhere .. One thing have found out since put my SCRC page have brought 5 new people 1 of whom truly rides, the others post How much they love to ride and all the times they did ride, but somehow never seem to be able to show up for a ride .. I will still do my posting here but think the Web page might be a good spot to concentrate on ride events coming up .. But no way would I want to lose what we have here ..

Dale, correct me if I"m wrong here. The website is NOT going to be another posting forum. It is just a website with a link to HDForums (where all posting is still happening). the website will have the ability to store photos in one location with easy access. (example: Rally Photos taken by me, Mike, Dale, Charley, Dave, etc can all be uploaded into one easy location) It will have emails if we want them. (we don't have to use them). The website will have calender of possible rides for the crew to look at. We will stay loyal to HDForums. We are not taking anything away from it. We just want to add a location to help organize somethings a little better.

As for FNGs... We all were FNGs at one time or another. I don't want our Motto to be thrown out either. We all have meet new people while riding and tried to explain how to find us on the web. With the website, we can just give them the WWW name and they can browse it. Within the website will be a link to the Florida Crew on HDForums where ALL posting will continue. I hope this helps clarify things a little.

Wow!
Dave's post made me do a 180 on this one. I was all for it, but now I think otherwise. Nowadays, If you are in business, you HAVE TO have a website. But is the crew a business? Who started the crew? Did the crew exist before HDForums? I don't know the answers to these questions, I'm the new guy. But I would definitely buy a t-shirt, hat and a coffee mug, if it will help you out. THE FLORIDA CREW ROCKS!

Default Not that anybody cares, but here's my take on the subject.

While a dedicated FLC website may seem "cool" and beneficial to the Crew, please consider these observations.

(1) A FLC website would not bring ANYTHING new to the table above and beyond what we already enjoy here at the HDF.
The possible exception to this would be a storefront, but IIRC it was previously
stated that this function would be off boarded from the proposed website anyway.
(Ref: Chuck, the store really had nothing to do with the website.)

(2) I could be wrong, and invite enlightenment, but I don't believe that $3.33 a month is going to buy
much of a website, much less the level of Internet security that would be required to preserve and protect it.
(How many times per year will it be defaced or destroyed by malicious 13 year old "script kiddies"?)

(3) A common theme among the previous posts has been "I don't want to lose the HDForum".
Commercial, but free to the user, websites (HDF) work like this. The sponsors and advertisers
pay the fees required to keep the website commercially viable and profitable to the owners.

The rates that the sponsors pay are usually linked to the number of "hits" or "views" of the website,
and the advertisements being displayed thereon (browser ad blockers notwithstanding).

Anything (e.g. FLCrew.com) that could potentially decrease the user activity on the HDF site
would not be welcomed, or possibly even tolerated by the powers-that-be here at HDF.
Our "FLCrew" section could be just as easily deleted by the same number of mouse clicks
that created it, should the owners deem it to be in their best financial interest.

(4) Before any further assumption is made that FLCrew.Com will be viewed as benign or
non-competitive by the HDF owners, this subject needs to be thoroughly discussed with
Terry1955 before anything else is posted here that could come back to bite us in the ***.

Of course, this is only my personal opinion... Your mileage may vary.

I vote "no".

If there was a website who would be the all encompassing God Moderator of the site? All of us? Probably not. If not then folks would have to go by a set of "rules". Even without a forum section there would still need to be a administrator.

If a new site was up there would be a lot of spammers hitting at it you know. Security is a lot of work on a site.

As far as photos, couldn't someone open up a image shack account or something similiar and then give out the signon and password to everyone to post pics?

The florida crew section here is not hard to find. I would not want to have to visit 2 sites to find out the latest news.

Bob makes some good points.

As another thought, we could acquire the FLCrew.com domain and simply point the DNS servers to the FL Crew section here on HDForums. The outside storefront could be handled via a link in a Sticky at the top of the FL Crew section, assuming Terry approves.

I'm contacting Terry about it. I think some people are making it out to be more than it is. It would basically just be a simple site linking back here and better organizing things for us. It wont change or complicate anything we are doing here.

Just think about how many stickies there is going to be if we keep adding things we want everyone to see first. There will be two pages of stickies.
