Well...I just came back from dropping my bike off at Harley in Ft. Myers.
Saw BertK there - good to see ya Bert!
I posted in Dave's b-day thread about how my transmission failed while heading home on Rt. 27 about 30 miles from home Sunday and Manny had to get the trailer to bring the bike home.
Bottom line...I'm without a bike for a week, but most likely longer due to some unforeseen incidences.
The rear drive pulley bolts sheared off. The pulley, rear wheel and a few other parts need to be replaced. That will take 1-2 weeks while parts are ordered, etc.
Meanwhile....when we opened the trailer at Harley today, I nearly fainted. Despite the care we took to secure the bike in the trailer, slid right into the inside door. The back fender has a slight 1-2" vertical crease right in the center at the very bottom where it flips up. The base coat paint chipped in the lower left and right corners, and some clear coat started peeling away. The detail work wasn't damaged (fortunately). It's not extremely obvious unless you look at that part of the fender.
I talked to the painter and she said she has someone who can bang out the crease and can touch up the paint no problem. I just have to send her the fender to have the work done.
So...Harley removed the fender that is going to get sent out tomorrow to the painter's while they work on getting the parts they need to fix the transmission. They're even nice enough to let me keep the bike there after the transmission work is done if the fender is not ready by then.
After hearing how bad the transmission was and thinking of all the possible disastrous scenarios given the mechanical failure, where I was when it happened, and all the other factors, I'm just thankful that I'm safe and the bike is repairable.
When I left HD Monday, they said it'll take a week or so to get the parts in. They have to replace the rear wheel, pulley, bolts, probably the swing arm, and I'm sure a few other parts. HD said all is under warranty so no problems there.
Meanwhile, the fender is at the painter's and we were able to get the dent out with no problems. The painter said the touch ups are not bad since it's only on the black base coat, not the pink or white part and it's all at the very edge of the bottom.
I'm curious if the pulley has been off before. I have heard of problems with this happening if the same bolts are used when reassembling. Never heard of it happening to an untouched pulley.
