Key West bound, Aug 3rd...counting the days. Any current info, construction issues, new sights and places to stay? Traveling companions? Would love some chatter and opinions... Heading south from southern Mississippi. Going to Apalachicola then on to Daytona, down A1A and into Key West. Coming back up Tamiami over the Sunshine Skyway and up US19 back to Apalachicola then over to Destin. Before you comment, I used to live in Tampa/St. Pete (20 years), so I know all about US19 through there...lol.
You know about US 19 but going to ride it anyway after coming up 41. Your just crazy enough to fit in around here.
Ride Safe -- Have Fun.
You bet! I learned how to ride on US19, so it will be homecoming for me... Well, actually, if I can remember a way around, I may take another route. Going to ride up the beach from the Skyway to Clearwater Pass so I'll miss some of the joy.
On your way back up watch out in St Pete Beach the oinkers are running a crosswalk entrapment scam. $166 and 3 pts on your license. Its all in the name of pedestrian safety of course. You know how many pedestrians get hit by motorcycles every year. So if you see some scruffy looking ******* standing at the edge of the crosswalk watch his foot if it hits the ramp and you don't stop the rest of the loser brigade will be waiting 2 blocks up for your donation! What? Do I sound bitter? Have a safe trip and a good time! Also a little construction on 19 between East Bay Dr. right in front of fletchers HD as a matter of fact up to sr60 but traffic is not to much worse than usual just try to avoid the rush hours on weekdays!

Thanks and a Tip of the Hat, Tourglider....I remember St. Pete Beach well...seems some things never change!
Sounds like a great trip! Keep us posted on your progress and maybe we can meet Y'all for lunch or something along the way.
I would stay off of 41 north of Naples as there are a lot of lights through Ft. Myers, Port Charlotte, Venice , Sarasota, and Bradenton. 29 to Hwy 64 would be a nice way up unless you are planning on sticking to the coast the whole way and dam the traffic. I personally would just run 75 from Naples up to 275 but a lot of folks don't like the interstate. I thnk you will be surprised with 19 as they have done a lot of work and over passed a lot of the east-west corridors in St. Pete so it is not as bad as it used to be but I forgot you said you are going to run the beach, never mind.
Have a great trip and welcome back to Florida!

Thanks, Dave. I'm going to do a blog, so I will send you the link before we leave. It would be fun to meet some new people along the way. Thanks for the response!!
