DO NOT jump a Harley from a running car or truck.
This has nothing to do with voltage being the same, it's about the 100+ amps the jump vehicle can supply into your bike's 30-40 amp system. Harleys use shunt type voltage regulators, which means your bikes 30 - 40 amp regulator may try and shunt 100+ amps to ground if its regulation threshold kicks in before (at a lower voltage) the jump vehicles regulator. And NO, the regulator is not protected by the fuses.

You may get away with it this time, but you risk frying the bikes regulator.

Before Ocala I was testing 2 heated jackets (that I ended up not needing). After the test, I turned the bike off. I went out several hours later and went to move the jackets off my workbench they were hit as hell... Forgot to unplug them.
The battery was dead. I plugged in the tender a few hours still wouldn't start. Went to autozone and bought a 60 dollar battery charger made for cars and bikes. It chooses the correct amps for the battery itself.
An hour later I tried again, it started right up. Jumped on it and took a two hours ride to charge it "properly".

Got it started, jumped it off my car, with the car off, started right up, then took it to the dealer, who checked the battery and said a cell was bad, and they replaced it under warranty.
Also, the service guy at the count told me not starting a bike for 2-3 weeks and the battery would likely be dead. That sounds absurd to me. They should last longer than that, right? Or am I missing something here?
