The loop around lake Okeechobee.
Make sure to use the route that takes you next to lake on east side.
If not then the ride sucks.
Mostly 2 lane, 45-55mph, mostly rural, some housing, trailer parks. occasional gas but not many lights at all.
For daylight driving only.
The grass hill/barrier will not allow you to see the lake while riding except for free (ride up over) viewing areas.
Called (715) when entering from south (south bay area) but called 700 or 78 when entering from north.
When entering through the south it passes a small airport on the left.
Goes through tiny town of Pahokee that has a nice lake viewing area near the ONE traffic light. It is a one light town. You will avoid the town except for the lake viewing area..nothing to see, eat or do..maybe gas.
Most do not know that numerous football players are recruited from that economically challenged area.
The east side also allows you to see Port Myakka that is north of Pahokee.
Port Myakka connects the atlantic to gulf by way of the lake.
but I enjoyed Ocala to N of Leesburg thru the Ocala National Forest, think it's route 41 to 19.
In S Fl there really isn't anywhere that interesting, all roads are straight.
The Ozello trail is a nice old Florida style road with curves and water view at the end.
I found the Monkey Bar not far ( 3 miles ?) from the Ozello trail rather interesting.
Monkey island is behind this place ...made for a neat stop for drink/snack. http://www.riversideresorts.com/RiversideCrabHouse.html
Link to the monkey island which can be seen from bar.
There was also a 1960's very simple state zoo park that had a AAA discount next to the main road on Florida 19 (Sun Coast BLVD)..that entrance has an included boat ride to the real entrance...very old school, very simple but rather relaxing if you take the little boat ride. http://www.homosassasprings.org/Homosassa.cfm
From Leesburg/The Villages area this makes for a nice day if planned correctly.
We rode this route this afternoon. It was a decent ride, nice and out of the way. We only did 155 miles, so it was a shorter ride. Definitely watch out for sand on the corners!! Luckily, on a Sunday afternoon, there was hardly any other traffic out there.
Everyone probably knows about the Witchy Trail, through Tomaka State Park and Old Dixie Highway, a good short ride right above Daytona, also called The Loop.

I rode that today starting on the south end... It was real nice, especially the portion with curves and trees covering the road.
A1A north of Jacksonville, up through Amelia Island and Fernandina, out to Yulee. Beautiful ride. Then if you want you can continue north for a little while up to St. Marys Georgia and the ferry to Cumberland Island, where they have wild horses. Cool place.
