I think you've got it backwards. The raised fist, 'power to the people' thing came from that era of 60's activism, and became popular with bikers in the early 70's. I got my first street bike in 1972, and don't remember seeing it that year (or maybe I was so busy trying not to fall over that I just missed it). I sold that first bike in the fall to pay for a car and didn't get another bike until the Spring of 1974. When I got that second bike, I was greeted with a raised fist on my way home from picking it up. I was slightly surprised as I hadn't seen it on the road before, and didn't realize that it had become a common gesture among bikers. Don't forget, there were a lot less bikes of all types on the road back then, and some show of solidarity seemed important.

I cant wave too busy...

I prefer the '1 finger wave'.

The wife waves. You don't wave back? She shoots. Wanna see a nice lady fire a gun from a moving motorcycle? Pass and don't wave.

If they were on Goldwings, no wave back, they were working the GPS to find the next HQ.

Some of us ol' curmudgeons, jus' refuse to change. It's a lot like building pans and shovels. IF what you're doin' is workin', why the H*LL "F" with it.

Ya, I 'tried' the "down low !!!" BS for a bit, but IMFUO, thumbs down. Jus' not my 'thang', I guess.

I went back to "THE WAVE", left fist.

First I saw it was '70, BUT, 99% of my 'road time' previous to that, was done in SoDak. And the places we rode, NEVER saw other scoots.

IMHO, one of the 'reasons' for the "fist", was, it was visible from acrossed the median, on the "Super Slab". And those that rode in the early 70's, know, there jus' were not a lot of scoots out there. Rode across Iowa and into Ohio more than once, and you could literally go for hours, and not see another scoot on the Interstate.

I often wondered if it was not the "bad" connotation from the Olympics, that ultiumately lead to it's "demise".

BUT, it is "ALIVE and WELL", in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes, and a FEW WEIRDOS". Tryin' to get the OL to "get with the program". The fact that I "akst" her, is reason enough for her NOT TO!!!!

Someone 'akst' if 1%ers wave. "Old generation", NO !!, "New generation", sometimes. Jus' MFUO, tho.

OP: that must have been the secret wave in your neck of the woods.
