Nothing wrong with your rant Mississippi. My wife and I had good fortune and good jobs the last number of years, and we wondered often who was buying all of these huge, fancy homes that were being built all over the place. We couldn't afford one of them. Turns out, neither could a lot of them.

The removal of Christianity (and the discipline that it involves) in schools to make way for freedoms of Religion resulted in no religion (which coincidentally minimalizes personal discipline).
The removal of a teacher/principal ability to punish a child for misbehaving results in no deterrent for not only disrupting other kids education, but removal of overall safety because ... let's face it .... the school bus, and the school grounds are now a particullary scary place for anyone ... not to mention a 6 yr old.

Heck, a parent can't even attempt to gain control and punish their own child without someone threatening to call children's aid and losing their child to a foster home.

TV shows, fashion or music based magazines, not to mention "inquiring minds" have been allowed to affect our way of thinking in general terms in an extremely negative way.
I just got out of education (6th Grade last year), and I can tell you that all of those things have adversely affected kids for the worse. I ran my room contrary to the way my adminstration wanted. They tried hard to make a fem-man, but failed. I had 23 families who stuck with me for three years running (looped 4th, 5th, and 6th grades). We talked all subjects, within reason, and my main lesson, whenever needed, was about life skills. The parents appreciated that, and the fact that I was a straight shooter and didn't hold much back. The administration, though, tightened the screws on me enough for me to call it quits. Test scores count and can be seen, life skills don't show up sometimes until later. BTW, my students scored very well on state tests because they took them seriously.
Sorry folks, my own rant.

Maybe if you'd ask for more raises you'd be riding more than just a sportie.

People started thinking they and their children were entitled to EVERYTHING and FORGIVENESS for any possible wrong was the key to some Utopian society. Charlie Manson? Man, give that guy a hug. He must not have gotten enough love from his mama when he was a boy.

They started thinking the American DREAM was every Americans BIRTHRIGHT. But they forgot about the part where you have to EARN the Dream. It's called a DREAM because it is not reality and only the best and the strongest earn it. What made this country great in the past was the ability to earn it!

Making a ten year old clean his room-NO WAY! He's much too busy playing with other kids to improve his social contacts and improve his chances of getting into a "good" college. Team try-outs for the local Little League? Little Johnny didn't make the team and now his self-esteem is hurt. That's not fair!

Everyone deserves the chance to be the "star" Everyone is special!

Everyone is Super-so now no one is.

Too much entitlement, not enough accountability.

scoteh, I would love for you to come teach in my local school system. There needs to be more teachers out there with the same thought. Better yet there needs to be more parents just like you.

Thanks, Kristy. I still feel good about what I did in school. I hear from from my now ex-students often and have been invited by some to school functions. The kids and the parents are the ones teachers work for, not the superintendent. It's their opinion that I always cared about. BTW, I'm really just Scot. the eh is middle intial, last initial.

Didn't offend me...I'm only 27 and looks like I was raised the same way Mississippiboy. And people that know me, definitely know that I am far from being politically correct. I say the truth no matter how much it offends others (especially those that are here illegally.)

Hopefully things change, but not looking too good. I just have to worry about how I raise my kids (when i have some) and try to give them the best life I can and instill the morals and values that were bestowed upon me growing up.

I don't know about you boys, but I am VERY grateful for my job, ESPECIALLY right now, where so many of my friends have lost theirs. I make very good money for my age and I was actually given a bonus this week because our numbers the past year rocked. I actually told my boss that I won't accept it right now if the company needs it more. Dead honest. Call me crazy, but i think that gesture will work out in my favor down the road. They insisted i take it, and that i deserved it, but i at least offered not to take it.

Sum it up, I think as a society, we are largely forgetting our morals and principles, and that my friends leads to destruction.

Agreed! There is no personal accountability anymore it seems. It's far too easy to sue someone else if you can lay blame at their feet instead of taking your share of the responsibility. Its ridiculous. A CEO of a company can run things into the ground and when he is fired gets to take a multi million dollar severance package. When the company shows a loss top level managers get bonuses and incentives but for doing what? What happened to earning it? It seems to have trickled down to everyone at this point. Personally I find it disgusting that so many people out there can be that tainted.

Don't get me wrong, I'm far too new here to be singling anyone out on this forum. I'm just agreeing with what I've read and adding my own rant to it.

I could not agree more. I told people over and over, during the election, how Americans have to earn what they get, and have to contribute to our country. We can't shop at walmart for all our needs, and expect to have jobs in our country.
I am so proud of my daughter and her boyfriend(except they are not married and living together) they could finance about anything. However, they live in a moderate apartment and driver average, affordable, cars. They are paying as they go and planning for their future. More people today need to pay their way and not expect everything right now.
