I lie because I've seen what the truth gets you...
ANYONE that says they don't lie is telling their first lie. If everyone told the complete and honest truth for just one day, the entire planet would shut down, wither and die or be destroyed by nuclear war.
Well, now .... THAT's where you may be slightly mistaken. It's easier to tell the truth and remember what you said as you felt it or remembered it, than it is to lie and try to remember the ****&bull story you came up with on the spot, of how you think someone would approve of.
I find it easy to NOT lie.
If you don't want my honest opinion ... don't ask for it.
Doing do things that you feel you may have to lie to cover up is what gets you in trouble ... Lying about it only confirms that you can not be trusted. It's really quite simple philosophy.
The truth gets you a reputation for being up front, honest and trustworthy. THAT is not neccessarily a bad thing.

I guess after reading all of the threads, it makes one think that there are the simple "untruths" and bold face lies. Yes you have to have a good memory to be a good liar However there are times when it is better to just say nothing then to tell the truth. If you believe that you always tell the truth, you had better go to the DMV and get the weight changed on your drivers’ license. I would bet that at a meeting at work, you would not dare to say the truth or what you are really thinking, lest you might lose your job. So if there are people who believe that they tell the truth all of the time, I am rather doubting that.
The truth gets you a reputation for being up front, honest and trustworthy. THAT is not necessarily a bad thing.
Your reputation is important and this is the only thing that you have control of, however if your being upfront is deemed as abrasive you have another problem.
5th............................................... ...Also depends if your talking full blowin flat out lie or a little bending of the truth lie or lieing to CYA or a little white lie or pulling the wool over there Eye type lie or not really telling the truth to your small children as not to hurt thier feelings type lie(i.e easter bunny, santa ect)....
When dealing with figures of authority I find it best to tell them what they want to hear, whether it's the "truth" or not. What ever gets me on down the road.
No, there's no 'half truths', 'white lies', 'bending the truth', 'almost the truth' or any variance of a lie - there's the truth and if one iota of non-truth escapes your lips, it's a lie.
Ask any person whose husband, wife, girlfriend or boyfriend has lied to them and they'll tell you that there's no wiggle room. But the difference is they see no problem telling 'white lies' ("If it doesn't hurt someone, it's not a lie) It's ridiculous. If you want to hold someone to the fire about lying, then ANY lie should suffer the same consequence no matter how 'small' or big.
Sorry, but nobody in this world is going to sell me that they've never lied. Hasn't happened and it never will. The difference between people that say they've never lied and people that admit that they lie is the person that admits to lying, is telling the truth.

I copied this off of an email.. So as not to ruffle to many feather. I will in advance not lie and tell you I have no political affiliation with Republicans or Democrats, and in no way care about either party.
The Lie Clock
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks
behind him.
He asked, "What are those clocks?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie Clock. Every time you tell a lie, the hands on your clock will move."
"Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?"
"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
"Incredible," said the man, "and whose clock is that?"
St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his life."
"Where's President Obama's clock?" asked the man.
"Obama's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."

The weight quoted on MY drivers licence was the weight I was at the time I answered the question. I'm probably not exactly the same height either ... I could be within Millimeters ... but that increment was not offered in the questionnaire ... Again, not quite the same as a lie. Even my weight varies from morning to night, never mind day to day or week to week. Again .... THAT is not the same as lying.
You're right though, it is better to say nothing sometimes than it is to tell the brutal or 'abrasive' truth. When asked whether or not I like something ... and I don't want to offend someone ... I simply say ... " Well, I don't hate it"...and leave it at that. THAT is not lying. There are ways to tactfully tell the truth although it is not the whole truth...May even be considered as a half truth. If I'm asked for my truthful opinion ... I can still deliver it with compassion.
I can't say I have NEVER lied. Of course I have .... But at this stage in my life, I just prefer not to...and I make an enormous effort to not lie ... Ever! I've heard heated discussions about things that have been misinterpreted by others who think someone has contradicted themselves. Most often THAT is not even because of a technical lie ... but more like a misinterpretation of what was said. Lying and deception are one thing ... Miscommunication is something entirely different.
