I've never heard of anyone being shunned because of their style of helmet. Someone who wears their underwear over top of their jeans, on the otherhand ... Well, yep, they may clear a room and get a few sneers and tsk, tsks.
Granted, not all riders wave all the time ... That can happen to us all .. no matter what we are wearing.
Yeah, I wave at scooters, I started on a scooter and, (can I say this here) actually still like scooters. Would love to have a vintage Vespa or Lambretta, or better yet a Sears Allstate.
Never been a scooter person but a few years ago I was riding down a local back road and came across 5 vintage Vespas coming out of a little store. They fell in behind me and rode in formation for about the next half hour to the next town. Every time I looked in the mirror, I started laughing - just had to be a weird sight - my big old bike and these 5 guys hunched over their little Vespas. They move along pretty good - what a hoot.
i almost never wear a helmet. i have observed that in the last year that people just wave less and less. imo i dont think it has to do with a helemt i think people are just getting more and more anti social.
I wave at everyone - Harleys, crotch rockets, those Ural sidecar things, old ladies in Buicks, etc. Some have helmets (full, half, DOT, non-DOT), some don't. Some wave back, some don't. Do I care if they (you) wave back? No.
and that says a lot in itself. He'll prob ride the wheels off it and enjoy every second.
To me, that's what it's really all about.....to hell with what anyone else thinks.
Exactly, needs to be made into a sticky or automatic response to many posts.

I wave at everyone too. If I don't know you, you get the benefit of the doubt, and a wave!
