I use a Memhis Shades windshield all the time. It keeps the wind off my chest which reduces fatigue, but I look over it not through it, still get the wind in my face - just not as strong.
I have never ridden with a windshield on my bike..... but i have to admitt sooner or later i will buy one because in november i'll be 35 y. old! The pain in the neck and some rheumatisms are really a problem for me : \
Should i buy a touring ? ( =
I already voted and posted about this but I want to add, one time I took it out with the shield off and I have gotten so use to it, the bike felt like it was 10" shorter! :>))
No, I've got to have the windshield. I got my first bike in 1967 and never gave a windshield a thought. I did the same thing you did, I took it off of the Road King I had a few years ago, rode to work, put it back on and never moved it again. It's interesting, I bet the poll number reflect the number of "old guys" also.
One thing that never gets mentioned in these windshield yes/no threads is the type of bike.
There is a BIG difference between riding a
spSoftTail with no windshield and riding a RoadKing with no shield...so the type of bike makes a difference. The actual riding position will change your opinion as well ( canter forward or back)
On my RoadKing, a shield - other bikes where you sit behind things more (tank t-tree etc) no shield
I have a small National windshield that I got for another bike. Universal fit so I put it on my Sporty. It is just big enough to cut the wind a bit and catch some bugs & other road debris. It is not like a big shield. I look over top of it so I catch lots of wind/rain still. Best of both worlds.

Had to go to the doc today. Jumped on the Heritage and took off. Didn't put the windshield back on from cleaning it.
Big mistake. I'll never ride without one again. Too much wind beating me around.
Ever experienced a head on collision at 80 mph with a suicidal wasp on your face?? A kind of suicide bomber, but smaller and more determined to hit you directly in the face? No, good so. Stay riding without windshield. And when you have ever experienced this (like me) there is a big chance that you never ride without anymore.
No wimpshield, ever. If I wanted a windshield, heat, a backrest, a radio, and all of the comforts of home I'd be in the cage. I welcome the beating from mother nature and I tell her "bring it on". It's part of the joy of riding for me. It's like the difference between tent camping and dragging the 30' 5th wheel to the modern campgrounds kind of camping.
If I ride the wifes bike I take hers off (she's a wimp ) because I HATE it.
Not only do I hate the way the wind comes off the top of the windshield and the distorted dirty view (you can't keep it clean), I think they absolutely ruin the look of 95% of the bikes their on.
Oh, and I just got hit the other day by one of those "suicidal bumble bees". I still have a knot on the side of my head from it (he got wedged between my helmet and my temple). It didn't feel exceptionally good but I'm not going to be putting on a windshield any time soon because of it.
