So because someone didn't do their job, and it caused another accident, it was the OP's fault? You must work for the towing company that caused it. I bet you would be saying the same thing if it were your bike.
Did he hit the oil or did the oil hit him? Could it have been avoided?
That's what's wrong with this country, BLAME IT ON SOMEONE ELSE!!! Just because someone didn't stop YOU from hurting YOURSELF doesn't automaticlly make it their fault. Yes, the mess should have been cleaned up but the oil slick didn't jump up and wrestle the bike to the ground. He rode into the oil and attempted to turn on it, that's what caused the wreck. The OP mentioned seeing the sunset so it wasn't completely dark and there should have been broken glass and bits of reflector in the road along with a big oil stain. How could you not see all that? I think if the OP had been paying a little more attention to the road in front of him, he could have avoided it. With all that said, I wasn't there and maybe it was unavoidable but for you guys to automaticlly say "it's not your fault", "somebody owes you money", "get a lawyer" really turns my gut!!! Doesn't anybody take responsibility for their own actions any more? Does it always have to be someone else's fault? It's people like you that are the reason why there are warning labels and disclaimers on everything these days.
P.S. To the OP, I'm glad you are ok, nothing was damaged that can't be replaced.
Oh who lite your tampon string ? It was someones elses fault period . In the state of Ca. its a law any spills MUST BE CLEANED UP before response crews leave the scene . We got so many tree hugger laws for that it isn't funny . Somebody else blew it not the rider , he was riding at an angle into the sun and could not see the the slick how does that make it his fault ? The slick if it was into the corner already could have been covering most of the lane already , again not his fault .
F*ck yes make the goddamn state pay for it they bleed the bloody hell outa us with taxes and fees , why shouldn't he get his due ?
It doesn't matter if it was oil, gravel or ice and it doesn't matter if someone was obligated to clean it up or not. The fact of the matter is IT WAS THERE and the OP rode right into it and in all likelihood it could have been avoided. It's not like the car in front of him dumped the oil, it had been sitting there for a hour. Did he not notice it when he was pulling into the parking lot? As the opertaor of a motor vehicle it is YOUR responsibility to watch out for road hazards because you can't rely on someone else to keep the roads clean for you. The only way I could see someone else being at fault is if the OP had no way of seeing it and had no other options but to ride through it but I doubt that was the case, he just didn't "notice" it. Like I said before, I wasn't there so I don't know exactly how it happened, none of us do. I just get sick and tired of people playing the blame game. The important thing is that the OP is allright.

Ride safe.
Yep, couldn't ride with you, for fear of you bumping pegs with me because your too busy paying attention to everything EXCEPT what you are doing, and who your riding around. Oh I forgot, you would be paying attention to EVERYTHING. Sure, ok

I definitely wouldn't want to ride with you because being an "alert" rider doesn't seem to be very important around here. You'd probably slam into the back of me and then blame me for it and that's the point I'm trying to make. Pay attention and take responsibility, I know it sounds like crazy talk to a lot of you guys that's the way I was taught.
BTW, I never said I was a perfect rider. I've made lots of mistakes on my bike and every single one of them was my fault, no one else's.

So I guess now, when I tell you about when my bike got trashed recently because some didn't see me and t-boned me, it was some how my fault? Sure man, I've been riding for 15 years, I'm only 31. Yeah, do the math, I was 16 when I started. And I can tell you that no matter how alert you are, you will miss things, and a spot of oil on the ground would most probably one of them. Take into consideration that he was most probably watching for other vehicles leaving the parking lot, he WAS being alert. If the tow truck driver followed state law, then the slick wouldn't have been there, and?? You guessed it, he wouldn't have dumped his bike, therefore NOT HIS FAULT.
