Since I no longer care what other people think, I wear chaps. I like having the extra protection of nice thick leather when bugs, rocks, and who knows what else hits me in the leg, but I like being able to take them off in a few seconds and throw them in a saddlebag when I want to walk around and be comfy.

I have both. The leather pants for the really chilly days, and chaps for cooler weather when I know it's going to warm up. The leather pants I have have a full length zipper just like chaps, but are way too bulky to wear over jeans, so i just wear them as pants. Otherwise I just wear jeans.

Lined chaps here for the morning commute at temps below 45. (It was 33 this morning). When I get to work, zip off and in the bag. Cheap pair too, but effective. Once I make the total commitment to chaps or overpants, I will spend the $$ to get better ones.
