On cold mornings I wear these
http://www.ebikerleather.com/_e/Chap...ide_zipper.htm
I like the price for naked cowhide
Wear them just like chaps
They keep the cold away and I like the easy on/ off with the side zippers.

During the summer and when temperatures are consistently over 50 degrees I wear chaps. If it gets really hot I can take them off and store them in my saddlebags. I always carry chaps though. Even on the hottest summer days there can be a 40 degree change in temperature as elevation changes in the course of a ride through the mountains.

I bought my leather overpants from jammin leather a few years ago for around $100. Get them with a waist 2" larger than your pants size and they'll fit fine.

Kinda presumptuous!! Oh well . . . . must have a some sort of reason to arrive at this conclusion.

Be quite , I like this stuff makes for good reading when it gets hot out later and monkey butt breaks out around the twins .

On the serious side I run chaps 80% of the time and they serve fine , when the weather kicks up i have a pr or Carhartt insulated bib overalls that rock on or off in about 90 seconds and warm & dry .

Here in the USA we are so worried about others will think,
that we will ride unsafe just to keep others from thinking
bad about us. Buy what is comfortable to you. Maby some
leather bibed overalls might be just the ticket.

Those of us who ride every day don't really want to wear the same pair of pants every day and people would start looking at me funny at work, so chaps is what I wear when it's cold.

I wear them for cold, so I can't speak for the people who gear up like a movie stuntman and plan to crash every time they get on a motorcycle. I don't own anything with armor.

I see you're new here.

You know how, in real life, most harley riders wear sunglasses and maybe boots as safety gear? Well on this forum you'll find all of the Harley riders you never see on the street, and they wear full face helmets, armored sport bike racing suits, and basically armor up like robocop to ride to bike night.

Normally, half of them freak out and start saying how "they're not scared, you're just stupid" when you mention not wearing a helmet.

Anyway, have you considered mesh or textile overpants? They will be much better in the summer, and you can wear whatever you want underneath, so that you don't look like a doofus once you make it to your destination. That said, I'm still using chaps and just some CE knee pads under my jeans. Still shopping for my summer pants, since road rash is more uncomfortable than some summer heat.

Overpants don't make you look like a doofus? Only if you live in a rest home where all the cool guys look like they are wearing diapers under their pants.

You say that like it's a bad thing. The reality is, you're supposed to dress for the crash, not the ride.

Admittedly, I'm a reformed basically "unprotected" rider. I used to ride in a tee shirt, mesh fingerless gloves, jeans & a 3/4 helmet. However, after seeing the damage (road rash) when a buddy's wife went down at a under 15mph when she hit some gravel on an easy turn, I changed my tune. I still wear jeans, but a jacket & full finger leather gloves are the norm now. Road rash sucks!

I'm not scared... you're just more likely to suffer a head injury in an accident than I am. Wait, maybe I AM scared? Scared of dying or worse, being in a vegetative state and eating through a feeding tube while my loved ones are saddled with the responsibility of caring for me physically and financially.
