Regarding Combat...There musta been a **** in every church tower in Europe! Kirby, Gage an Little John could out duck an 8MM Mauser every time! Mach Schnell! Personally I think Schultz would have kicked Sarges ***. Especially if he made him late for dinner!

Sky King, Roy Rodgers, Whirlybirds, man those were some good shows back in the day..
Don't forget "The Lone Ranger", "Rawhide", "Wanted: Dead or Alive"...and "Have Gun, Will Travel"!
Man, Sky King and Whirlybirds are the shows that really got me interested in aviation, and that led me to having my private ticket at 16, taking my checkride the morning of my 16th birthday and my driving test that afternoon....and to my Army service flying Helicopters!
Great memories of a time that my grandkids will never get to experience...

Weird I am a huge fan of shows from back then even though a bit before my time.
Things were different then at least as far as men go. My dad was kind of the quintessential old school 60s cool kind of guy- USAF fighter pilot strong sense of duty and honor etc. I learned a lot about what I consider is important to be a good man from those shows and my dad.
Interesting how folks are influenced as you described in your OP.
Some of us watch wild ones or something like that and thought wow I'd like to be a shitbird others watched Gentle Ben or whatever and thought wow duty, honor, integrity that's the ticket.
I can't even watch shows like Sopranos or SOA because I can't stop thinking what a bunch of morons with their complete and utter sense of duty and brotherhood to each other. Until they are arrested and need a deal or something makes it convenient for them to F each other over.
I see that in real life with some of the "fellas" have have dealt with overseas.
Anyhow, very interesting how TV can shape people. Even if they don't watch a lot.
My weekend line up as a kid - I couldn't wait: Fury, My Friend Flicka then Sky King (and his neice Penny). Also, in NY we also had Wonderama and Sonny Fox and the Andy Devine show with the indian boy who rode an elephant. Good times Not the crap the kids have today.

It was crap...but nice crap.
at least Penny, despite having some seriously big jugs....didn't have a big Kardashian ***, and attitude.
and dude, men haven't changed...there was no 'golden era'...they just hid all that **** better back in the day...I know...because I was there.
