I've been a bit too busy to visit lately, but here's the scoop. Retiring congressman Ray LaHood (R-IL) is Obama's pick for the post, Ray has sided with motorcyclists on every major federal issue. What this translates to is every federally funded transportation study, improvement, education initiative and overall policy is directly affected by the department. There are some parts of the world that don't include motorcycles when planning roads, bridges, traffic studies, etc. Under his leadership the DOT won't be using tax dollars to try to blackmail states into passing/enforcing helmet mandates, bike bans, vehicle-specific roadblocks, etc.
