Have replaced one starter clutch. engagement/kickback.
starter became slow as in need new battery. Got new battery (did not need), no change. developed starter clutch symptoms. Took it in on a Friday, they expected delivery of clutch but it did not arrive.
Go to start at dealer and clutch totally gone, no engagement, just spins.
Long story short, heading away on trip, dealer took a starter off a bike and installed to get me going. Immediate solid strong cranking, for a whole week. Then back to get my starter with 2nd clutch. Immediate weak start/crank hesitation. They agreed but so far warranty has not approved starter. Total failure seems to be a requirement.
BUT, it is the starter, not the battery or charging system (in my case). Volt test would point back to battery, load test did not.
Looks like it will be my cost to get rid of annoyance. anyone know how to burn out a starter? LOL

What is the correct Wal-mart battery?
Like Cosco, their battery selection is limited.. You just have to check if they have a AGM absorbed glass mat battery for your bike. They have one for my Softail exactly like the Harley one. 1/3 the cost. However you have to pour in the acid and charge it to activate it. However, there are no vent tubes or such and it is glass mat sealed AGM. Do not use a battery with vent tubes or such. You want a sealed battery in a Harley. You do not want a venting battery where Harley puts it with the ECM and such. That would be like washing the bike in the ocean. For me, it has worked well and if it only last 3 or so year, if I cannot find a Wal-Mart, we are all in a lot of trouble. Of course, there are a lot of people who say Wal-Mart is the trouble. I personally would probably starve if my Harley dealer was also the grocer.
