Default Switch Covers

I'm thinking about replacing the switch covers and was wondering if there is anything special you have to do with the brake lever to keep from messing up the brake light switch?

first of all, i would recommend you get the HD service manual before you start. Yes, you have to wedge a piece of cardboad between the lever and the perch (keeps the lever away from the switch). the service manual gives you detailed instructions on changing the covers. word to the wise, is to be patient and carefull as you do this job.

You have to be verrrrry careful with it!!!!
I changed my switch covers and found out the hard way that there is a small button that goes between the housing and the brake lever. If you take it aprt wrong it will break off of the switch and then you get to go spen ~$35.00 for a new one. It has been a while since I did this so I don't remeber the sequence but I think the manual will guide you through it. Funny thing is that after I replaced the covers I wound up replacing the switches too. Everyone of them broke at different times. I still have to replace the cruise control. It has been a real pain and there is no room for anything inside the housing.
