Default 16 wheel balancing weights?

I just noticed that there are 16 wheel weights on my front wheel. (8 on each side) Each one is 5 grams. I'm not familiar with this department but does that seem a little excessive?

If the wheel is out of balance you will have a vibration at the upper speeds, 50 plus. If you don't have that your good.

You've got just a little over an ounce and a half in weights on both sides of your tire. Not anything abnormal.

It is certainly more than I would expect or recall seeing, however tyres do vary in manufacture, so if it rides OK you should be fine.

Was the yellow dot lined up with the valve stem when it was installed? Dynabeads work well and eliminate those unsightly weights.

That's OK, but I still wouldn't like it.
I have mounted car tires that would require lots of weights, but instead I spun the tire around a bit and balanced them with much less weight. Sometimes the wheel can be a little off, sometimes the tire, when both heavy sides line up, that's when the excessive weights go on to balance.
We are told to line up the dot on MC tires with the stem, but there would be no harm done with a little spin if it produced the desired effect - just requires a little more work.
That would be a good use for "Ride On" or Dyna Beads, if it bugs ya...

Check your dot as Beezr suggested. HD puts a dot on the sidewall that should be aligned with the valve stem to match the tire to the wheel. I have in the past asked the local H@~$# shop to install and balance my new tires on wheels I hand carried in. When I got them back I too found an excessive chain of weights on my wheels, possibly because the dot was not properly aligned before seating the bead
