Default Hearing and feeling things after motor work ??

Just installed cams, lifters, adj pushrods and bearings in cam chest of 2004 RK and my feeble mind has me overly concerned with noises and vibrations !! It has been 4 months since I last rode it and my mind is toying with me most likely.

I also installed the Glide Pro system at the same time and from previous experience with this set up there is some different vibes to felt especially at first. These tame down with a few miles and I noticed a reduction as I rode.
Normally I do like to perform multiple changes on the bike at one time so I know if there is a immediate change where to look for my screw up !!

I feel more thumping ? feeling on decel and lower rpm cruising , can this be attributed to the Andrews 21 cams?

My top end is still noisy which I had hoped would diminish some, can I add a couple flats on the pushrods to see if it diminishes ?? Not as bad as previously but still clatters around 22-2400 RPM.

Overall am pretty pleased with the new performance the cams have provided and with the new map from Fuelmoto. I pick up RPMs a lot quicker than before and the cams do not fall off up to my comfortable rev limits of 52-5400 RPM.

Hi BHTed Surprised no one jumped in here . I felt the thumping too When I put the 26 in Seemed to go away as my engine warmed up !? As for the noise I am now thinking that Andrews cams for T/C's are a little noisey( Dam quiet on my old Shovels & Evos) I honestley thought my 26 was a little too loud for a mild cam Im looking at cams for my 06 RG And keep comming back to either The 21,26 Or the one I really want SE 204 !? The noise on my 26 was not bad But again kinda loud(chingey) for a mouser ! Maybe those S&S standared lifters ?? ( I had those too) Sorry I can't be of more help. But I do remember not liking the thumping down low

Johnnynitro,

I have about 180 miles on it now and the thumpin is less as the Glide Pro settles in but I do feel the cams especially in the lower rpms and decel.

I think I need to add a couple flats to the pushrods as I have a slight tapping in the top end that was not there previously.

The cam chest area seems a little more noisy than before but I keep thinking it is my imagination.

I am surprised by the lack of responses on this too, usually the Forum is full of ideas and input. If it was a post asking about chrome or a big wheel it would be active !!!

The change of cam profile will increase induction noise, as the engine breathes more deeply than when stock, so in my own experience top end noise was significantly more after similar changes. You may simply be hearing that, plus noises you didn't previously listen for! I suspect that as the miles roll by you will get used to it and it will seem to get quieter! That is what I found.

Grbrown,

I do indeed hear induction noise that is different, as I ride I am trying to identify the different sounds. So far the only thing that really bothers me is the mechanical ticking that sounds like a rocker arm. I am thinking of adding a couple flats to the pushrod adjustment since I went with the S&S quickees. It sounds like only 1 valve to me. That sound was never heard before and it is very slight.
