Default Does Transport Mode Stop Battery Drain?

I have a 2006 Ultra Classic. Owner's manual got destroyed. Had the security system installed at dealer after purchase. During the winter I would like to stop the drain on the battery from the clock and alarm system. I think the system may have a storage mode, but I know for sure there is transport mode.

I saw a YouTube video that indicated to put the bike in transport mode, have the fob with you, turn kill switch to off, turn ignition switch to accessory, press both directionals at the same time and turn ignition switch to off. This didn't work for me. Am I doing it wrong?

Is there a storage mode for this bike and if so can somebody share the procedure? All responses appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, stop by the new guy section and introduce yourself. There is a transport mode, but it's more for trailering than storage - going into transport mode will keep the security system from flashing the lights every time the trailer hits a bump - it doesn't have any affect on battery/clock as far as I know. Pulling main fuse would probably do it for you. The procedure to get there varies by model, and I can't remember the correct sequence of on/off and pixie dust off the top of my head.

If you haven't seen them before, the smart battery chargers are better than sliced bread. I use them on bikes, ATV, tractor jetski etc. Plug it in when you put the bike away and it fires up in the spring like you just came off a ride.

It won't help you for storage.

Come off the $20 and get a battery tender, that's what they're made for.

Transport mode only stops the motion activation. The bike is still armed. Get a battery tender

First of all, welcome to the HDForums and welcome from NC.

I agree with others about the transport mode. The alarm is still armed so you can't start the bike without the fob. As mentioned, a battery tender keeps the battery charged and conditioned. For the future, here's what the manual says on the transport mode for my RK....

To Enter Transport Mode

1. Turn the ignition switch to IGN.
2. Set the engine stop switch to OFF.
3. With an assigned fob within range, turn the ignition switch from IGN to ACC.
4. Simultaneously press both the left and the right turn signal switches. This must be done within five seconds of turning the ignition switch to ACC.
5. After the turn signals flash once, turn the ignition switch to OFF and the module is armed.
6. Confirmation: Turn signal blinks three times when armed for one ignition cycle.

To Exit Transport Mode

Return the system to normal operation:
With the fob present, turn the ignition switch to IGN to disarm the system. To cancel the transport mode, set the engine stop switch to RUN.

I've never put mine in transport mode. Seems like I remember reading about it once. Wasn't really aware I needed to use it. I have trailered 700-800 in a day in an enclosed trailer so I don't know if the lights blinked or not. My 6 year old original battery has never failed to start though. I don't know what my point is except I don't think I'll worry about doing anything different unless I'm gonna pull the bike around in a trailer for a week or two

Me too.

I've put my FOB on the bike while trailering across country, never had an issue.

But that won't help the OP's storage problem either.

My fob stays on the bike as well when trailering....guess I haven't caused any unnecessary wear on my lights after all come to think of it. At home.........

Hauled a 12 Limited and 14 Limited in Toyhauler for 6 days with the fob in each. Arrived at destination and the 12 started and the 14 was completely dead. The battery tender wouldn't bring it up any after 2 hrs. Pulled battery and charged with truck alternator for 15 minutes and it fired right up. No more problem. When coming home another 6 days put both in transport mode and left the fob in tourpak and again the 12 fired up and 14 was dead again. I will pull the 14 main fuse next time. Different procedure to put 14 in transport mode which I used. this was about 3 months ago and battery still fine. I am thinking the 14 radio or CanBus maybe drawing it down. I may have done something wrong on the transport mode, but it signaled it worked.

Default Found the procedure for Storage Mode

Thank you all for your comments. I do have a battery tender, but the connector that came with it is too short to get past the seat and the longer connector i bought seems to blow the in-line fuse when i hook up the tender. I put those pleather koolking heat deflectors on under the seat and that makes putting the seat back on a real hassle since the seat is pushed back and it makes aligning the back screw difficult. This is why i wanted to learn more about the storage mode. I found my water damaged manual and looked up the procedure on storage mode. I now have it set to 10 days. I believe this means if i don't start the bike after 10 days, the drain on the battery should stop when the bike goes into storage mode.

At some point i'll have to buy a different tender that comes with a longer connector.
