Total mileage, 1102 in 22.5 hours...
BUT, I will say that I will never do it again. I was not very alert during the final 50-100 miles. I would rather be late than dead.
I've done two "official" IBA 1k/24 rides and once unofficial. Two of the three times, wifey was along for the ride....
Tips:
If you are "planning" a route for one, go west early and return east late. That way you're not riding into the sun all day long.
Plan for rain!
Start as EARLY as possible.
Don't attampt the NASA solution for bathroom breaks ~ I am ASSUMING this would make for a miserable ride.... [&:]
One guy rode from Jacksonville Fl to California, rested one day then reversed his route. He got a "Double Coast to Coast" or something to that effect.
I love to ride but not that much.
About half the guys in my Wednesday group have certificates, some have several.

Looking to do the "50CC" (Jacksonville, FL. to San Diego, CA) next year. Not sure if I'll have the interest in making the return trip for the "100CCC"
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
On one 1000 six of us took off from San Diego @ 6am on a cool damp morning - Ride ended up in Laughlin Nev - and routed us through Arizona where the heat was well over 100 degrees: During this one event we hit weather from 41 degrees to well over 100 degrees - hit high winds - and rain... So always expect the worst and hope for the best...
Not all Speedo's are the same - even if you all ride together and have all the required check point proffs - adding a extra few miles or checking the mileage before you check in at the last stop is ALWAYS RECOMMENDED...
Things we all learned was:
Get ready for the ride and ride a few week-end prior to the run to get your body & butt ready!!!
May be easier to ride solo (just a thought)
Tank to Tank Runs - Fuel up - Water up - & Comfort Breaks
Always take and have water with-in reach
Using a Cool caller or a spray bottle while riding
No Matter WHAT SEAT you have - Think hard and long about a Gel or Other type Seat Pad - and use it on every other stop
Use your Highway Pegs - Crash Bars & floordoards
If it's a warmer to hot days - Load up on Sun Screen and long sleve shirts (as if its a hot day you can soak you shirt in water)
Music - have a MP3 player - sat radio or something to hang in your ears (it help make the day roll by faster)
If you have a cruise control - USE IT
Think Layer when packing - Leathers - Light jacket\sweat shirt - long sleve t-***** - rain gear
BUT MOST OF ALL - RIDE WITH FRIENDS\FAMILY (if you have a CB it always makes live a little easier - some of us used hand held types as our bikes were not set-up with factory units)
It may seem like your never going to make it - but once you completed one you'll think back and say "Well that wasn't that bad" & start planning on youu next one

Do not think for one second that you are going to ride 1000 miles on your first attempt.
No, I'm not a member, but I will be some day.
A group of 6 of us did just that last June. All on Harleys. Two snow storms, rain, 50 miles of nasty road construction. Two of the riders were women.
