I am planning on an attempt to do the 1000 miles in 24 hours on the way home from Denver back to Chicago. Google maps has it at 1072 miles.
Comfy Road Glide with SunDowner seat and backrest, seems very possible
Doing it in the summer (lots of daylight), touring bike, and superslab is relatively easy for 1K in less than 24 hours. On my first IBA certified ride, we simply rode 150 milesor so, stop for 20-30 minutes while gassing the bikes, and repeated this seven times; voila, 1,060 miles in well under 24 hours. Follow the IBA recommendations for preparation and stamina. It's a good way to cover a lot of territory on a bike trip when time is limited. Last summer, we rode from metro Atlanta to Sturgis in two days insteadof the usualthree because we couldn't take three days getting out and three more coming back.
I'm planning my first 1K ride for early summer and probably making a bigger deal out of it than is necessary. But you'd hate to get 500 miles out and have something happen that was not anticipated or worse - unrecoverable. I recently did a little warm up ride of 560 miles that taught me a few things about long distance/long saddle time. Here's the review: My Warm-Up Ride. It might be beneficial for you to do something similar if you've not yet spent all day in the saddle.
