Looking through HD's spec sheet, the new RK comes in 5lbs heavier than the Streetglide?
This has got to be a typo or they somehow made that batwing, stereo and gauges lighter than the RK windshield assembly.
Rear crash bars vs. none, fender decoration vs none, passing lamps / brackets vs. none, passenger boards vs. pegs, seat is a little heavier, metal frame & stem mirrors vs plastic. That headlight nacelle on the RK probably weighs more than the entire SG infotainment system. And really, except for the radio and speakers the batwing is mostly air and plastic.
I had always wondered why the RK was so much slower, but it makes perfect sense now.
ah that makes sense. So that should make it a faster cone riding bike. Used one last weekend at a cone competition, RK felt so much lighter to throw around than a batwing bike. Was surprised they weighed more.

Maybe it was just easier to see the cones.
This thread got me looking at the HD site (I didn't want to post without seeing if the RK was actually heavier) and holy carp....A CVO Limited or CVO Road Glide is 130 or so pounds heavier than the RK / SG bikes. Me solo on my SG is probably close to 400 pounds lighter than my fat buddy and his not so skinny wife on their Limited. That explains a few things.

I test rode brand new SG and RK back to back. It was ridiculous how much nicer the ride and handling was on the King which completely trumps the extra 5 lbs. The SG sells due to looks and entertainment, not because of extreme ride quality.

It's not the pounds, it's where the pounds are. SG weight is high and attached to the forks. The RK weight is low on the frame. It's a very nimble heavyweight bike. But don't tell anyone, it's a secret.
That is interesting. Also, Street and Road Glide Specials, are same weight as their respective 'standard'. Also, RG is 39lbs more than SG. Below are weights in pounds, listed as lightest to heaviest per Harley site.
