Default Work around for short cable on Adjustable rider backrest

Well I got a decent deal on a brand new street glide adjustable backrest with the hydraulic actuator and installed it a few days ago, however I spent several hours trying to figure out why the cable was too short inside the cable housing. I have read others having this problem and it appears the cable must be straight as possible with only the loop at the rear fender to the actuator. Well, I guess since mine was for the street glide and I was putting it on the CVO Electra glide, it was too short no matter how I routed the cable. I tried it 10 different routes including just running it right on top the frame rail which was perfectly straight and it still kept the actuator lever pulled in too much and wouldn't allow the system to function. So, I went down to the local bike shop and bought a 6 foot bicycle cable (same size diameter as the cable that come with backrest system), and I cut one end off the Harley cable and removed it from the cable housing, then inserted the bicycle cable. The bicycle cable came with a small lead end on one end and bare cable with no end on other. I used a grinder to shape the leaded end so it would fit in my actuator handle (which mounts under frame where heat shield is if you have mid frame heat shields). After I finally got it to slide into place in the handle, I used an aluminum cable stop bought at home depot for a few bucks, and routed the cable how I wanted it (hidden), I pulled the excess cable down through the hook at the actuator and slid the aluminum stop over the cable and when I got it right up against the actuator hook, I crimped the aluminum stop in place, and cut off the excess cable. Problem solved. I could have ordered the proper size cable and handle for my bike, but I wanted it finished today, so this is an option for anyone who has the same trouble. I will try to get a picture of the aluminum stop crimped on my cable and post it here. I also got my Khrome werks narrow +2 bars and all new cables +4 and +4 hydraulic clutch line and brake line. That will be my next install. No hurry, I have plenty of winter to do that job.
